I want to get a TRUE DUAL exhuast system for my 02 5.4 and wanted to know if a dual turndown make it sound deep or what? I want it loud and deep! I was thinking dual FM 40 series 3" with a turndown on each one? any suggestions???
thanks
i know if you go with a dual exhaust it will be louder. a buddy of mine went with dual exhaust on his 04 4.6 and i dont know if it was the series of flowmaster or the tips he used but it sounds like its missing when he revs the rpms.

my 97 5.4 was cut at the y right in front of the o2 sensors then ran straight out. i had chrome tips and she was loud & deep, sounded mean.i loved how she sounded so did others...no flowmasters or special mufflers just straight pipes......
i heard that you loose power with true dual. something about back pressure. i just wanted to know if an H pipe or X pipe would help. basically my plan is to run duals with a X pipe and then strap the 40 series flows side by side with dual turndowns....sound LOUD?
thanks
i didnt lose any horses might have gain a couple. i think youd have to go with bigger pipes to lose the back preasure.stay the same size or slightly bigger your fine you dont want to free up to much pressure.if you where turning out right behind the cab you might have problems.
By reducing back pressure you'll gain horsepower but you'll loose low end torque.
At least thats what a master certified Ford tech told me.
did he happen to say to what degree of reducing back pressure? why i'm asking is cause the exhaust guy i use does just about all the high performice cars/trucks around here and seems to think that freeing alittle bit of the pressure helps across the board which made sence to me. kinda put me in the mind of an ajustable muzzle brake on a rifle. .10" sweet .20" messes the barn and feels like your shoulder got knocked off but the human eye cant notice either adjustment.
when running dual, should i run a muffler on each side or just strap both together where the stock muffler is at?
AND with back pressure,
what if i ran smaller pipes to get more back pressure and will an X pipe be good?
thanks

No he didn't. I'll ask next time I'm there. I know what you're talking about with the muzzle break things though, just the right size is perfect, too big or too small really messes with too much. One thing to remember about high performance stuf is it is that "high" performance, which is designed more for higher rpm's to get higher hp.

with no mufflers and no x = no low end power = not a truck

i hear what your saying brother but unless you go crazy your not going to loss low end torque...you can free up some back pressure for a great gain, but you'll have to go insaine to get that far.the stock exhaust is already muffled down so going straight out with duels with stock size pipes you aint loss much back pressure but freeing up the breathing=big gains.its the simplest way of getting alittle bit of power cause your not adding your just freeing up alittle bit that the motor already is making but losing...
