I have a 1991 bronco w/351w....engine builder built it.....distributor gear wearing out extremely fast....2 diferent distributors both stock one remanufactured...changed gears several times....both brass and iron......tried three different cams, first two were comp cams, third cam is an edelbrock cam...engine builder cant figure it out and never heard of this.....lubed the hell out of the gears...after breaking in the cam i pull the dist. and already see the gears getting wore out (sharpening)......has anyone heard of this and how can i fix this....
I'm by no means an engine builder but usually the cam manufacture specify what gear to run..you mentioned brass and iron...iron would be cast???maybe you need a steal gear (cnc)if there is such a beast...i'll try to look for you..good luck
Check the vertical movement on the distributor shaft. I know you have replaced two distributors, but check it anyway. I had a similar issue on my '66 4x4 with a 352 in it as the distributor shaft drove the oil pump and it suffered from vertical displacement. Went through three distributors until I changed to a dual point unit back then. Seems that the dist. would be forced upwards and cause excessive backlash on the drive gear. Just a thought.
