Hard to think of a CUCV with low miles, but I'm sure you can still get quite a bit of life outta them there axles..
I guess I really don't know for sure if they're that low of miles. The only indications I have of the low miles are that one, the guy said so (and he's not exactly hurting for money or in a hurry to get rid of the axles), and two because the original brake pads are still on the original grind (thickness) rotors on the front. The rear axle doesn't even show signs of axle seal leakage (a norm for a 10.5" corporate with more than 30K) so I figger that he's not totally shooting a line my way.
The thing that really gets me though is the 1310 yoke on the 60's pinion shaft. Kinda weird I thought. Oh well, the drivetrain only had to hold up to the 6.2L diesel powerhouse so I guess 1310s were kinda overkill anyways.
Shucks....I've done written a book....might as well keep it going.
Loading up these axles is gonna suck. I've got to rely on manpower to do it. Good thing I've lowered the '73 and only have to lift 18". If I had to lift the axles into the monstertruck I think I'd pop a testy.
Yeah, I lowered it. But, since these axles are going in it with 44's then it's all good, right? Buds? Besides, it's not slammed or anything extreme. It sits level with about an inch above the 295/50-15s all the way around.
It's a shame too because just 6 months ago I built a 3 link airbag setup for it and I've been extremely happy with the results. Oh well. Anyone own a 73-79 1/2 ton 2wd that wants a bolt-in 3 link airbag rear suspension setup? The airbags just allow me to haul my crotch rocket around and still keep the ride level.
Yeah my flareside is lowered too (about a 3/4 drop), handles like its one rails, and its a better city drive (seat is right a butt hieght, just side on in), and I've loaded a few 9" rears into it, sure makes it easy to load stuff like that into.
How much would you want for that setup cody? (pm me with a price) I'm wanting to take out a leaf or to one the flareside so the back end will ride better in the rought stuff and i've been thinking about an airbag assist to help when hauling a load.
Naw, you dont need to be forgiven-you have a 350 with 49's, you can do anything you want!
Now airbags are cool, especially when you do the setup yourself...
Monday's the big day. I had to bribe a couple of guys to help me lift the axles into the truck. They said they wouldn't help me unless I used the 2wd to get them.....they thought that I wanted to load them into the monstertruck. Yeah. I am not about to lift 350+ pounds of awkward axle onto a tailgate that's 57" off the ground.
Time to start at the drawing board and design some link brackets, a subframe, and all the little stuff that makes for a good ol' time.
