Door Latch Cable Installation Tips?

I'm replacing the door latch cable on my 92 SC Ranger (no power doors). So far I succeded in removing the latch and installing the new cable, but I'm having a heck of a time in re-installing the latch. The problem is trying to get the rod that's attached to the key cylinder to hook onto the lever on the latch. The instructions that came with the cable don't offer any insight. I figure there must be a technique or sequence of assembly that makes it simple for re-installation.

Has anyone else successfully completed this installation or have any guidence or tips?

Thanks,

dlq

you have to remove the lock itself, pull the little black tab thing out of the door jam that hold the lock in place, put the rod in the latch assembly then feed the other end through the hole the lock goes into. then from the outside of the truck put the rod in the lock assmebly, put the lock back in place, make sure you put the rod on so the lock is right side up, slide the lock in the hole, slide the lock holder back in the door. and mount the latch assembly.

home this helps.

f-250.4x4.390, thanks for your advice, but I was able to get the latch cable installed, and the rods re-assembled without taking the lock out of the door. The solution was my very capable wife who was able to utilize her smaller hands inside the door to 'wrestle' the rods and the latch into proper position. All this was done out in the driveway when the daytime temperatures rose above freezing.

As to where to buy the cables - I bought mine new at the local Ford dealer. Price for the set (to do both doors, including the weathershields, springs, and new screws for securing the latch to the door) was $55 Cdn ==> $62.50 with taxes. The instructions stated that silicone grease was to be applied to the end of the cable, but I couldn't find any of this grease anywhere. I ended up buying and using some synthetic grease - I hope this doesn't degrade the life of the cable!

Good luck to you.
