Interior door handle - catching

Interior door handle - catching
I have been battling this issue since the first time I pulled my driver's side door trim.
1. Door handle/latch works fine with no catch from the outside;
2. From the inside, it works but is definitely catching;
3. If I don't keep upward pressure on the door latch when re-installing it, the thing frequently won't work at all.
4. There are no adjustments I can see on the rod running from the inside door handle to the door latch.
I know, as it is now, I need to get the door handle to lift the door latch mechanism higher to function properly.
So where is my issue - the door latch operating mechanism behind the inside door handle or the door handle itself is worn.
If the rod running from the door latch opening mechanism to the door latch was shorter by a 1/4 inch or less, I am pretty sure it would all be good.

They sell new inner latch mechanism , over the years metal to metal contact wears away the metal so same action doesn't move latch as much . same goes for the outside handle . sounds like you need the whole latch assembly .couldn't find it on D/C site .
