Hi again guys, I think I may have managed to find a new problem with the latch in the rear doors. I have searched and read and watched youtube 'til the cows come home and cannot find an answer to this one. I have the bottom latch locked closed on my right rear door and tried opening it by pulling (and pushing) on the cable. It seems as though the cable, is attached to the latch as the sleeve doesn't move and I can find it by feeling down there but pulling on the inner cable does nothing to the latch, even doing a three handed door handle pull. I'm sure I can get the latch repaired or cable reattached if only I can get it out, which requires the door to be opened. Any ideas??
Has nobody else ever encountered this before? The latch locked where you cannot open the door? Does anyone know if there is a way to release the latch from inside the door skin, or is it locked there, forever???
Cheers,
No, I don't think it is seized. It just quit working right after I got the truck and it feels as though the cable is somehow disconnected. Maybe the end is broken off it? It is still in place and moves in the sleeve but the cable isn't actuating anything. There's no other way to get into the latch to open it, right?
Thanks for the answers.
Shows you how to get the door open, and replace the broken plastic ends with metal.
Yup, only shows how to open the door with the cable working. My cable appears to be disconnected, or broken inside the latch. I guess this is a first..... lol
You can open it with a flathead screwdriver through the door in the back. I just did mine the other day. I'll have to do it again tomorrow so I'll take some pics if you're still stuck. (I see this was back in Feb)
It does indeed. I will be giving it another shot tomorrow. Reps sent for the first write up I've ever seen on opening that darned latch without a cable.
