I had a couple of misses under power on my PSD. I was thinking if it keeps happening and is not solved once I fix my oil leak(still waiting on orings.....-- QUICK-- need the HX mod info and ya didn't answer my email --help on that please!!) that I should replace the CPS. Was talking to a mechanic that thought it might be more likely the crankshaft sensor???
Easy to replace. 10mm socket with extension and you've got it. Found it the easiest at the stealership. Wasn't that much more expensive than Autozone, O'Reilys, etc. My '99 started dying at idle when the CPS first started to go. Then it would die going down the highway and restart itself. That's no fun at all!!!!!!!! Good luck

Can someone explain the exact function of the CPS? The service mgr. where my truck is undergoing surgery explained it as a sort of "warning device" that serves to shut down the engine when something else is going wrong.
I was kind of under the impression that it basically kept all the other systems informed as to where the engine was in the timing circle at all times so fuel could be injected, etc.
