what was the last year for a 390 in the f series pickups? i think everyone mistakes a 360 for a 390. what was the last year for the 360? i think a 360 could run good with the right mods.
Both the 360 and the 390 were manufactured up to 1976. I can not tell you if they were installed in rigs past that, as an option. I would think they could have been ordered with them from the surplus engines out there in stock.
Both the 360 and 390 were the same block just different bore size. FE motor is an FE motor sizing from 332 to the 428 including the 427 in the FE series. The 428 was not manufactured past 1970 and only in Cobra Jet. The 428 was halted in manufacturing in 1968 with the introduction of the 429/460 block in 1968. The 360's and 390's were still built to cover the ever growing auto market with mid level motors.
I hope this bit of info usefull for ya.

Bore size is the same at 4.05" on 360/390, the crank/rods/pistons were different... Either engine was availalbe untill they were used up in 77 and a 360 is never "mistaken" for a 390
