ok so my 76 f100 has a 360 in it, from what ive read its a gas guzzler and not as powerful as the 390, ive also read that i can put a 390 crank and rods into thus converting it into a 390. Is this true? if so ive yet to find 390 cranks or rods in any of my magazines (lmc truck, jegs, & summit) where can i get em? And last tax return money is coming soon and my motor is stock as it sits. im thinking new intake manifold and headers for starters and possibley a cam, any ideas?
The way to do it for more power with the same gas or even less gas is to use the higher compression older car pistons. The 2bbl 390s were 9.5 and the 4 bbls were 10 or 10.5.
You can go out to 445 with a .030 over and aftermarket stroker crank, or just find a 390 to rebuild or pull the crank & rods out of.
See the FE forums, this is talked about in about 1 out of every 10 posts.
