New Carter m4013 fuel pump on left, old pump on right. They are both \"faced" up with ports on top

From looking at them I would think the Carter would install with the filter and ports on the bottom but it doesn't fit on account of the engine mount.

The pump lever is on top of the cam, I'm thinking it should be under the cam, with the pump mounted the other way. The other pump's lever was under the cam. If there is a way to take that filter off and put a different housing on there it might would fit. Truck is an 85 4wd np435 2v carburetor. Someone that knows these motors better than I may have a more reasonable solution. I have had an 87 but it was efi so it seems there are plenty of differences, that was almost twenty years ago also. I went to diesel for truck needs since then and Toyotas for a gas sipper. But I love the simplicity of the older ford trucks, all of my ford diesels are idi. Thanks in advance FTE.

 

That's the way that pump mounts. It's just the older style pump.
