1960 F100 Fuel Pump Style Mystery (pictures)

Hi everyone, I bought a 1960 F100 Styleside with a 1963 223 I6 from a car. I know the block is from a 1963 car because the stamping on the side(see first image below). I bought a new fuel pump for a 223 full sized Ford car since that is what the motor is from, and got the spin on canister filter type(see second image below). It absolutely would not fit with the canister facing DOWN, with the pump arm UNDER the cam lobe, even after rotating the motor to find the low part of the lobe. I flipped the pump so the canister faces UP with the lever ABOVE the cam lobe, and it mounts up perfectly. I haven't started the motor yet because it just does not seem right with the canister facing up, but the motor rotates fine by hand, and there seems to be good contact between the cam lobe and the pump arm. The fuel pump mounting flange shape doesn't match up to the pump boss on the block, see third image below of the canister gasket on the block boss. Also see the bare fuel pump boss on the block in the fourth image below for reference.

From looking at the pictures online, I feel as if the 1960 223/1963 F100 pump(see fifth image below) would fit the boss and mount "correctly". Can anyone shed some light on which pump is correct? Also I have no desire to hook up the vacuum wipers, so thats not an issue for the pump.

The Rock Auto fuel pump is the "typical" auto parts store replacement, because it doesn't contain the fuel filter.

When this type was installed, you also had to install an auto parts store inline fuel filter, by splicing it into a fuel line.

Here's correct fuel pump, the pic doesn't show it, but at some point in the 1960's, the glass fuel filter bowl was replaced by a metal bowl.

That looks like a pump for a 240. I used to have a 1969 F100 with a 240 and the pump looked exactly like the one in your hand.

I agree, I think you have the wrong pump. Mine is just like the one in the Rock Auto picture, but the picture is upside down, the pump arm goes under the cam lobe.. I replaced mine a few months ago, I only bought it from Macs because theirs stated it was Ethanol compatible.

Pic: 240/300 fuel pump. Notice these engines have the intake/exhaust manifolds on the right (passenger) side.

Yes, I know. I'm not sure I understand the point you're trying to make? My point is that the pump that's being held in the picture looks like one that would fit a 240.

Notice how the pump is mounted. The canister and the cartridge fuel filter fit all of these 1964/76 I-6 & V8 car/truck pumps.

The 223 pump mounts on the right (passenger) side towards the front.

Hey everyone, thanks for all of the responses I really appreciate it. I ordered the new pump from Rock Auto, it sounds like the shape/style is correct from what I am seeing and from everything you all are saying.

I will post back on the fitment and function when I install it, hopefully this can help someone else out in the future.
