After soming freezing rain, turned on the windshield wipers and only the passenger works, the driver side gives a tiny bump and that is it, it will move freely with your hand though -time for a new motor? or can it be tightened to work again, seems stripped, help much appreciated...(2000 expedition)
Just pop the plastic cap off the wiper arm where it connects to the post. Rotate the arm the correct location and tighten the nut real tight. Should be good as new.
Thanks guys, it was just a matter of popping off the top and tighting the screw, can you believe when I called ford about this problem, they wanted me to bring it in and run an $82 diag. test - bunch of scam artist, for a little research and 20 seconds of my time I had it fixed for free...
I work in our families body shop and we have people complain about that alot this time of year. You might have stripped out the wiper arms threads, so you might have temporarily solve the problem, but eventually you might just need to replace the wiper arm.
A few years back, I thought that I stripped the wiper arm on my 1999 Expy. I bought a new arm from Ford. It was in exactly the same condition as my old one. On the Expy, the wiper arms don't have any threads or splines. The hole has a smooth, conical shape. The post that the arm bolts to has extremely fine splines. The nut does almost all the work in terms of ensuring that the wiper turns in sync with the movement of the linkage.
BTW, take the time to tighten the other wiper arm nut as well.
