Hope this isn't a dumb question but I have never seen what I am looking for.
I am looking for fender badges for my 65 Mercury 4x4. My 2wd's all say Twin I beam on them.
Is it like the bigger ford trucks that say FORD (or Mercury) then 600 or 250 or whatever underneith? Does it have a plastic insert?
Thanks, it's hard to find pics of Mercury 4x4's and seems even harder to find the emblems.
I have a 66 Ford 4x4 and my emblems can no longer be read, it did have spelled out the words Four Wheel Drive. I did see in a cadalog, it was a Mac's or NPD cadalog that you can buy repros of these. They are plastic inserts that go into the crome side emblem.
The 1966 F100 4x4s had a plastic insert that said "four wheel drive". They were mounted in the same emblems that the "twin I beam", "camper special" and "ranger" trucks had. The 1966 F250 4x4s had emblems that said "250"and were of the 1963 and 1964 shape. They were mounted in emblems that looked similar to the 1963 and 1964 trucks, but had different mounting posts. The Mercurys had the same inserts, but specific Mercury emblems (same differences between M100 and M250 4x4s as the F100 and F250 4x4s). The larger M350s, M600 etc. used the same emblem as the M250 4x4s. I've seen the chrome Mercury emblems from time to time on ebay. The inserts are the same for Ford and Mercury and are available here and several repop companies.
Thanks for the help. So I guess my 65 will have the plastic insert as well that says "four wheel Drive" or "4x4"? And M-250 above in chrome. I will keep an eye out for these. Are they the same for many years? ie: could a earlier or later 67+ Merc have the same as I need, or only simmilar?
Thanks again.
On the Fords, Ithink the emblems changed for 67. I did look and the NPD cadalog had the emblem inserts for the 4x4 and the ford crome I'm sorry I did not look to see if they had the Mercs.
I don't think it's quite that easy. If they are like a '66,looks like they are all-cast and say "Mercury" on the top and four-wheel-drive is cast below it
take a look http://groups.msn.com/slick60sfordfs...o&PhotoID=4783
If they are like a '64, they are shaped the same as a '63-67 Mercury 2wd symbol on the side of the hood and you can buy the plastic inserts at Carpenter's or LMC.
check some pics at mercurypickup.com -if you need more help they might know.

I found a set of emblems I was talking about earlier that I think may be correct for 65 merc m100 and m250 4x4s as well as 66 merc m250 4x4s, that is if they followed the same pattern as ford's emblems for 4x4s. If they are the same as ford, the 66 m100 4x4s would be different. They are similar to the 63-64 ford emblems and would have the same inserts - 100 or 250. The mounting posts are also different. Check ebay item #4526123798, I can't seem to post the photo here. I'd be curious to see any 61-66 merc 4x4 emblems.
Tom. Those are correct for '63 and '64 Merc 2WD and 4WD. They mount on the side of the hood.
In '65 they went to an all-cast rectangular plate on the fender of the 2wd and it was the same on the '66 2wd.
What's correct for a 4x4 is still a mystery.
There are slightly revised versions (of those same plates on ebay) in use on the '67-68 Mercs too. The studs are slightly different on the back, and the lettering is black, after the Slicks. They are mounted on the cowl
