Check engine light comes on...but no codes

I have a '96 F250 SC 4X4 with a 5.8L and auto trans. The check engine light comes on, stays on for a short time (maybe 5-10 miles/10-15 minutes or so) and then goes out. It seems to be an intermittant problem. It could happen one or two days in a row, but then not happen for a week or two. It seems to happen more in the morning after the truck has been running for only a short time. It never happens on start up. Don't know if the cold weather has anything to do with it either.
I took the truck to a shop and they checked it for codes and said they found nothing. No codes.

Does anyone have any ideas? I would greatly appreciate any help.

Thanks

Two things come to mind:
1) Did they check KOEO(Key On Engine Off), KOER(Key On Engine Running) and CM (Continuos Memory) codes?
2) Got to http://www.fordfuelinjection.com and I believe they have a procedure for testing when no codes are present. Also other good info. there too.

I believe they checked both KOEO(Key On Engine Off) and KOER(Key On Engine Running). I'm not sure if they checked CM (Continuos Memory) codes?

Thanks

Is your truck OBDII? I think '96 is when they changed.

See if you can find an emissions sticker under your hood or somewhere on your truck. It will say OBDII if that is what you have. It may say EECIV if you don't have OBDII. The link posted above will probably tell you more.

You need to learn how to pull the codes yourself.

Run some searches for OBDI OBDII EECIV, etc till you are sure of what you are working with.

My truck's Check engine light came on a few times intermittently in cold weather, and then went off again. The dealer mechanic said the cold air intake contains a sensor which sometimes comes on in cold weather--he said not to worry about it if the light goes off and it only happens intermittently. In my case it didn't seem to affect any aspect of the truck's operation, and has not reoccured. Just a thought....

Question

Did he say if the name of the sensor was an Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor?? My CEL blinks on cold days, but does not stay on continously.

I think the '96 & '97 Heavy Duty model F250's are not OBD II. It depends on the GVWR. Over 8600 (?) pounds and it is not OBD. The Light Duty '97 250's are OBD II.

My '97 with the 5.8 is not OBD II.

I'm surprised that there is no code set. I wonder if there is possibly a short somewhere causing the light to come on intermittently.
