I have been doing some research on this site and you guys have helped out a lot with your posts. I just bought a new '05 6.0L this weekend and it it is way slower than my modded '99 7.3L. I see that you guys do not like to change the intake on the new ones, so I will leave that alone. It looks as is if the Diablo is the programmer to use by your testaments. The question that I have for you is the dealer told me that the truck I have comes from the factory with the "Mountain States" exhaust system. They claim that it is larger than the normal exhaust. I went out and measured the inside diameter at the tail pipe and it was 3.38". Is this true, and will it be suffice with the tuner on 120hp setting? I am a lead foot and I love to haul donkey. If not, I want to put a shorty exhaust on it - stopping just behind the cab, or a straight pipe setup going all the way back. If I change the exhaust, who do you recommend? Thanks for all of your help guys.

I don't agree that there is general concensus that the Diablo Predator is the programmer to use.
Both the Predator and Superchips Microtuner SCMT seem to be great products. The Predator users are perhaps more vocal in touting it's principal advantage in being able to be updated via the Internet versus mail like the SCMT. A second and lesser discussed feature is the real time data logging.
In terms of performance, EGT under load, shifting, etc., the few users that have tried both and reported to the forum report that the SCMT may be overall a bit better performer in the key areas above as a whole. Either way you can't go wrong.
As a SCMT user, I'm very happy with the change it's made to my truck when operating in both loaded and unloaded modes. I've not tried the Predator and am not trying not put it down in any way.
My point is simply that I don't agree that there is concensus by testament that the Predator is the way to go.
You'll also find all sorts of posts regarding the exhaust, turbo back vs cat back, vs straight pipe, etc. No clear winner there either but cat back does seem to provide some seat of the pants improvement and reduce EGTs for many.
The SCMT isn't currently available for the 05 but will be out soon according to Vic.
I originally was going to purchase the Predator for my '03 when there was no SCMT available for the 6.0, then I heard that it was coming out and decided to wait. I'd had good experience with a previous SC product and figured that the new SCMT would be good too. I haven't been disappointed, it was worth the wait.
I've been using the TS Instigator 135 for just over a month now.. and am TICKLED to death, with MBRP 4" turboback exhaust, Runnin' medium setting for pulling.. I am getting about 10-11mpg with a GVW 25k, and empty I get closer to 17mpg. This setup is definetly set you back in your seat, whipe the drool off your chin, I think Daddy like kinda thing..... Everybody has different wants/needs/budget, and can get plum crazy with Mods, to the barest necessities to the highest extremes, so be careful, and have fun... cause you can't judge who you pull up next to until you see the smoke out the exhaust pipe.
Daryl,
I see you use the SCMT and have the x monitor listed. Do you like the X better than the gauge pod because of size or readability or what. Any idea when the SCMT for teh 05 will be available? What exhaust do you run?
Well I have an 05 6.0L and I just installed the Predator a few days ago. WOW!! I love my truck.....I have the Airaid intake and an MBRP dual exhaust but I will only be running the tuner in the 65hp mode. I want my truck to last and am v ery happy with the extra performance the Predator has given to my truck. I have never used the SCMT so I can't say yes or no to them. The Predator is a great product and you simply can't beat the deal you get from Motorhaven.
I reviewed my searches for many hours, but there seems to be contradicting statements in here. Is the turbine outlet pipe 3" or 3.5" on the '05? If it is 3.5", then the turbo back kits would be worthless. Might as well go cat back with a cat eliminator piece. Sounds like you also do not want to lose too much back pressure beyond a 3.5" t.o.p. for fear of ruining the turbo. Correct me if I am wrong on any of this. I need to give Motor Haven a call asap. This thing sucks stock. Thanks guys.

Despite what you may read, all factory downpipes are 3 inch diameter piping. The 2003 MY downpipes had HORRIBLE crimped bends; whereas the 04 and 05 are much smoother, but all are 3 inches in diameter.
IMO, it is worth the effort to port the firewall in order to install a 4 inch turbo-back with 4 inch downpipe. Other opinions will differ.
Well boys, I just placed my order with MotorHaven. I went ahead and purchased the Diablo Predator and the Hog Performance cat-back system. I will start with this, ending the system turned out just behind the cab. If it is not suffice enough, then I will try the larger down pipe and remove the cat. I am nervous about all of the turbo failures I keep reading about. Hopefully MotorHaven gets it here fast so I can install it and let you guys know how it did. Thanks again.
