Ok i will admit that i have not driven either one but i do have a 351c with 70 4v heads. Based on what i gather i would pick the 4v if i meet the following: manual tranny, sub 3500lb vehicle, 450+hp, or a automatic with a 2500-3000 stall. As for having a 351c in a truck and other applications i would go with the 2bbl heads.

oh yeah the closed chamber heads are worth about 10.5cr and with milling of the head and or the deck you could end up with 11cr vs 9 something from the 2bbl heads. This is an important factor.

What pistons do you have? Flat top or dished? For a flat top piston engine, I would not use quench heads unless you have easy access to an adequate supply of 100 octane aviation fuel.

Good luck,
Doc

Speaking from experience both driving and maintaining, the 351C 4V is not even good in a lightweight daily driver.

It's not going to be for a daily driver, just a weekend driver. I'll proably use flat top pistons.

I'd still probably go with the 2bl heads because,A they're easier to find,B you can use pump gas, and C you can still build decent hp and still have some snort off the light to show off with. If you do decide to go with the 4bl heads you might want to invest a little money and have the intake valve unshrouded in the chamber. It will help alot

I have the 351 C closed chamber 4V heads on my 70 Mach 1. Running a C6 and 4.11's in the 9" with a Detroit locker.

I run flat-tops, had the exhaust ports smoothed out and flow checked which helped a bit. Manley pro-flow valves w/undercut valve stems.

It's not a monster down low but it pulls hard, it's really best once you clear 2500/3000 rpm depending on the camshaft and intake you run. Mine pulls to 7500 rpm and actually is best in 3rd gear. It really romps past 100mph.

Stay with the 2V heads if you just want a mild street car to have some fun with, it would be more responsive around town.

Have fun!

Daily Drivers

I used to drive a 69 Mach with a 4v Cleveland ,auto , and 3.91 gears every day. It ran good with a stall. When I switched to an 8 in converter and 4.56 gears, it became a weekend driver. I also had a 78 ford 150 4x4 4 sp , and 3.73 gear (with 36 in tall Buckshots)with a mild 400 w/ 71 2v heads. The truck ran good with a mild cam and a performer 400 , 600 holley. I milled the heads to get the compression up on the 400,because of the dished pistons.I drove this truck every day for 9 years. With the 4spd you can always gear down to get the r's up to tow or play in the mud.If you use the 2v heads, I feel you need to get the compression up to do any good, either by pistons or shaving the heads.
