I have a 2000 excursion and I have been having strange problems lately also. At first the rear pass. door wouldn't actuate and I was going to tear in and lube the rod but I haven't gotten to it yet. But the other day, none of the locks were working all the sudden. The locks sounded weak and if you repeatedly pushed the button (either direction) they sounded even weaker and weaker...almost like when a battery is going dead. I actually feared that the main battery was dead but after I unlocked the truck with the key, it started fine. The problem with the locks was the same with the engine running also. And then last night some were working ok again...I don't think it's temperature related since I live in a warm climate. I figured that there is a relay crapping out on me somewhere but haven't got the time to look into it yet. Does anyone sell an aftermaket actuator yet...where can I get on beside the dealer.
From what I have learned it is still a dealer only item. But I think the replacements are better than the origianal. Get your walet ready and bring some vasiline!
Just finished replacing them. Problem solved!!!! Work great now. Took a couple hours to do all four doors, but could do it a lot quicker now that I know the secrets.
Mine had the same problem. I replaced the relays on firewall behind radio, and fixed problem. I would try this before buying any parts. The relays are in a box with three in a row. Remove that and inspect or replace relay spray WD40 on connections. Mine work great now
To get to them remove floor vent tube for the driver side, may have to remove fuse panel cover, you can't see them unless you do this (behind tube) . Mounted on wall with a cover over the three relays , follow the wire bundle . Let me know if you still need help
Well I got three door lock actuators and replaced them. They are good as new. Now the fourth door lock is intermitent so I guess its back to buying the last one. They are a pain the first try but then its much easier for all you folks thinking of giving it a try. I guess the keypad is next for me...it will accept the code and lock the doors but wont unlock the doors. Pretty soon I will have an entirely new lock system :-)
