From what I've read they will disable the cruise control system for now until they get enough switches in stock to replace them all. Then they will call you back.
I'm wondering if I could just pull a fuse or something so that I don't have to make 2 trips to the dealer?
Does anyone know if there is an easy way do disable the system w/out having to go to the dealer?
While in town for a trip to the bank I heard the same news. I stopped at the Ford house and the service guy didn't know what I was talking about. He got the vin and ran an OASIS and sure enough it showed up. It said that it is the speed deactivate switch and that it is to be disonnected and taped until the new parts come in April. He had no tech available so I said that I would do it myself.
I then heard on the next news broadcast that in all cases the CC has failed BEFORE the fire occurred. Since my CC is still working fine I am not going to disconnect the switch. In my case I have a manual transmission so I think I will have to do this to both of the speed deactivation switches, brake AND clutch.
Even though my CC still works well, this is a little worrisome since I keep this truck in my shop where my 35 year collection of tools equipment, woodworking shop, welders, etc are located. If it went up the truck would probably get replaced, but my shop full of stuff took me a lifetime to collect.

Have a great day,

Ouch. If I were in your shoes, I'd play it safe and not keep my truck there, or disconnect the fuse despite the fact it still works. It said all cases, but its not worth taking that risk that you could be the first to have a fire when it was working fine. Crap. I gotta take mine in
I called ford after the notice , they did't know, so I sent them the article.as noted in the other messge, PULL THE FUSE NOW !!!!! remember the wipers ? I saw two fires (not on mine) before that recall. thanks
OK Now I am beginning to get worried....What differences are there between the 00, 01 vs the 02 F150's concerning the CC? Any final word as to the years? I read the article and it only mentioned the 01s and 00s, but its still a little close to just blow off and not worry about.
this recall for the CC......i have an 01 4.6 L 5spd......my cruise shuts off sometimes, then comes back on, an sometimes i smell it....like it's burning....with hearing all of this about the recall.....does anyone know if 01 reg. cabs are included in the recall.....i seen that it was only supercrews from 01
The difference probably the switch. I learned alot more on another site where Ford techs hang out.
The problem is a bad pressure switch on front of the master cylinder. The circuit that freeds it is a 20 Amp circuit that is always hot, ignition on or not. The defective switch will start shorting which produces heat in the brake fluid which is a combustible fluid.
I went out and felt of this switch and it was ice cold, but I disconnected the connector anyway. I use my CC alot, but it's just not worth the risk to me. I will do without it until April. That's when the new parts will be available.
They are NOT included in the recall. If you want to relieve your worry, simply raise the hood, disconnect the connector from the pressure switch at the front of the master cylinder and look into it with a flashlight to ensure that it is dry. If it is wet, that fluid can combust due to the 20 Amp always on circuit that feeds it.
I will be giggling like a schoolgirl when they have to recall even more vehicles with the defective switches they have been installing for years.

"You will remember that back in December Al's Morning Meeting told you about an investigation that WESH-TV in Orlando was working on involving Ford F 150 trucks that were bursting into flames even hours after they were parked and turned off.
Yesterday, Ford recalled 792,000 of the popular trucks and SUVs.
Just as WESH reported months ago, the problem appears to be in the cruise control switch."
A co-worker and friend was inside his house one evening a couple of weeks ago when he heard something he didn't like. Going into his garage he found flames coming from the driver's side front wheel well of his 2000 F-150! He exhaused two fire extinguishers with no effect. The fire continued up into the attic shuttle hole in the ceiling of the garage. Once inside the attic it immediately spead across the entire length of the house dropping fire onto the ceilings below. The family lost everything except some baby pictures on a CD and their wedding album.
So . . . if you've got a 2000 F-150 you might seriously consider getting it fixed or at least park it outside your garage! I don't believe he had any problems with his cruise control before the fire.
Thanks For The Heads Up...i Hadn't Heard. I Have An 01' Screw And It Looks Like It Will Be Affected Too. Hope It Doesn't Melt Down Before I Get It Taken Care Of.
