Thats exactly what I did today, I went to the dealer to find out what can be done about mine 97 f-150, because cruise control switch was leaking, service manager sent me to parts and said that the NEW switches were now in stock, went to parts department and told him I had 97 f-150 and I need the cruise control switch, he looked it up in the computer and went into the back and came back with the updated switch, and said all it does is screw in to the master cylinder.
Oh ya! the price of the switch was $17.08, that is right seventeen-dollars and eight cents will change it out tommorow.
CLick here to see pic of new cruise control switch contens are the new switch, a zip tie, and a wire harness

My 1997 F150 caught fire so go to ford and spend the $20 and get the part replaced. my cruise hadn't been used for three years and my car was parked , key off and not driven since the night before. if i hadn't looked over at it, by chance, it would be burn't to the ground. after researching the problem, it seems this can happen ANYTIME. Three people have died because their houses burnt down. As soon as there is a suit going i'm signing up. Ford is treating loyal customers like dirt and not recognizing that they messed up. after looking in to it some models from 1992 are at risk too. so do the research, get the CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH replaced on your truck ( $23 at FORD dealers ) and don't worry about the prob. as for me i may be selling my truck after i get the whole master cylinder and all electrical connections that burnt ( will cost me about $1K with labour ) because i don't think i'll feel safe with it around my house any more....

I just went at lunch and bought the part - $15.81 from a dealer just outside Atlanta.
Before I bought the part, I checked with the service manager to see if my VIN had come up on the recall yet. Nope - but he told me to keep calling back to see if has and they'd reimburse me when/if it does.
My Screw was built in August of 2000, but is titled as a 2001.
Replaced mine yesterday. 98 F-150. Cost me $30.00 and about 15 minutes to install, but that is peace of mind well spent. I questioned both the service advisor and parts counter people. Both seem to be reading from a script. I told them all the vehicles with this particular switch should be included in the recall. The just looked at me with blank faces. Anyway, I sleep better at night and will wait for the class action lawsuit so I can get my $30 bucks back. Thanks for the info.
Am I just missing something? I've looked at my truck and can easily find the plug at the end of the master cylinder - but it goes from there directly into a wire loom. The one I bought from the dealer yesterday has a plug on either end. Do I need to separate the loom to find the other end?
FYI I see a lot of confusion about which Ford trucks are part of this recall. Just read one stating that '99 F-150 is not part of the recall. Be advised, I own a '99 F-150 and I got the recall notice in the mail from Ford. Just thought you should know.
I know that for my 97 F150 the recall did not come the same time (few months later) than the hubbies 2000 F150. I stopped in at Ford to set up an appointment for the 2000 and bought one for my 97 outright (a little over 20 bucks). Luckily I did not get around to changing it before my recall came out for the 97. When I took the 'bought' part to the dealer they said it was not the right part and reimbursted me for it and set up a date in late November to call back for an appointment.
So if you are not on the recall list yet and decide to buy the part make sure it is not a 'like' part and is the new part that is required for the recall.

Reason: typo
Well, I called my dealer again today and they are now telling me that it may be January before the harness is available to them. This is rediculous. I have already been unhooked for almost a month and now have to wait another 2? I miss my cruise
I have a 1999 too that I just had the cruise disconnected at the dealer with the proper paperwork filed. Only use this truck for long trips in the warmer months most of the time and certainly hoping that the new fused wiring harness comes before too long. My dealer says they haven't heard anything updating the arrival of the new parts.
I trust them as they are one of those exceptional dealers that calls everything straight and honest. I also imagine that January is a good target date. I had a Ranger back in 1998 that Ford demanded that the cruise control be deactivated - some sort of cable problem. The new parts were about two months later than originally promised with it too.
At least I don't have to worry anymore about that one in a million chance of the truck burning down the house. Except that when I look under the hood of my 2003 Ranger with cruise, that switch looks like the very same one under the hood of the 1999 F-150.
