shifter wont move

shifter wont move
When I went to start my 1990 Ford F-150 half ton automatic, 5 litere the key turned to the start position really easy as if the spring in the tumlber had broken. I was able to start the truck however I then couldn't move the shifter arm out of the park posision. I therefore have a truck that runs realy good but won't go zoom zoom down the highway. Could the fix be as easy as replacing the ignition key mechanism or is it something more serious? Thanks bob.

There is an ignition interlock that could be an issue and a pin behind the lock core that will cause problems. The interlock with the brake pedal may be at issue? Check those first.
