When we start the van and go to put it in gear the shifter will not move out of park. This is a new development that started with no warning, one day it was fine, the next it wouldn't shift. I have found that if I turn the key in the ignition just a lilttle, like I would be starting it again, that the shifter will release and work fine. Until I put it in park again. Then I'm back to square one. Obviously this is not a good situation. Anybody have any ideas on what caused this issue?? Thanks.
Usually it is either a failure of the brake light switch or the solenoid that releases the shifter when the brake lights are on. Do your brake lights work? If so, then it's probably the solenoid.
Just went and checked and brake lights are not working. Where would this brake light switch be located? Thanks again. It's great having someone to ask who actually knows something!!
ok, thanks. I searched some other posts and found more info. The 15 amp fuse was blown. I replaced it and blew the new one. Then I reached down and wiggled the wires on the switch, just for chuckles, and put in another fuse and now it works! Obviously a bad connection in the switch which I'll look into next. Thanks again.
