The Corvette has had independent rear suspension forever, I think, and they don't really have problems. But c4's and prior models had BIG fat driveshafts instead of the FWD looking half shafts. The new Z06 will be competing with the GT, not Mustang.
Continental has been out of production for a couple years now. I've been looking long and hard at buying a used one for a second family car, even though its front wheel drive it also has the 32V 4.6 with over 260HP, the only Ford car with more power was the Cobra.
When you say "Ford" do mean Lincoln also since you're mentioning the Continental?
I'm asking because the current 4.0 in the LS is 280 HP and the Mark VIII version of the 4.6 had 290HP.
If it means anything, my Mom had the Continental (on my advice) biggest POS we've ever owned. Electrical gremlins NOBODY could figure out. Ford did buy it back and she got the Town Car.

The early years had a solid axle...I thought they went IRS with the StingRay style?
So does ths mean the Crown vic/Grand M will go FWD!??? that sucks.
No, they are going to be separated from the Town Car. Supposedly, Lincoln wants to kill the town car all together and call the EDITED BY Admin child FWD town car a "continental". The new Continental is supposed to be their new flaghip. As if they didn't learn the first time around that people didn't want a FWD continental. I don't think that they could possibly even try to convert the CV/GM to FWD. That heavy of a car would fall apart under cop and taxi use and that is where a majority of the Vics are sold. By the way, I own a 00 Marquis.

Reason: Language...emailed
one thing is for SURE ford is going to price the cobra out of reach for most people....
funny they will keep project cars like the GT and the cobra mentioned above....
but it seems to make more biz sense to go in another direction....
Yeah the new Continental will be FWD with an AWD option (which I think helps quite a bit). As for the Crown Victoria i think i read somewhere that it will move on to the Australian Falcon Platform. Which to me is very good news.
If it were not for Shelby..............there would never have been a "Cobra" anything in the first place. The name matters not.............fast does! Bring on the Shelby!
Amen to that brother.
Shelbys are not some of the highest priced classic cars because they had a reputation for looking good. Some of them , with their scoops and fake stuff actually looked a bit ridiculous. Just like the GT500E's do still. But they could GO!! and they were race cars, FAST race cars. That WON races. I can tell you from personal experience that there are people out there who would not buy a 'fake' Cobra, period. But a Shelby Cobra.. weelllll... that's the real enchillada! The genuine article.
bring it on!
I hope Carrol and crew toss in a few of those aluminum 427 FE's he makes in some factory-sponsored drag Mustangs. That would be the closest thing to a return to the sixties that a guy could hope for. Supra-looking Corvettes , be dammed. I want a snortin' fire breathing Mustang!

Y'know Tim, that's a good question.
I waffle back and forth on that one myself... The 69-70's were a bit overdone tho, IMO.
I imagine someone shelling out six figures for one would be thoroughly in love with the scoops and bumps, tho.
