Ok, so I knew I needed some new shocks and was looking into getting some but was quoted more then I wanted to pay, however I recently had my trucks tires ballanced and rotated and they found the front driverside shock was snapped in half. Any suggestions on what type of shocks I should go with, I have a 99f150 4x4 supercab with a 5.4l v8, I do ocasionally go offroading but nothing serious, there are a lot of curvy roads out here. The cheapest I have found is at les schwab tires they quoted me about 240 for gabriel shocks they said they where the biefiest shocks they had, the other option was the mountaineer xlt or something like that, are these good shocks? anyone tried these before? any suggestions on other shocks? Thanks
How hard would it be to install them yourself? is there any tech articles online that anyone could direct me too or any books I could buy with instructions, I've seen it done before on tv it doesn't look too hard as long as you have a lift and the right tools. I might be able to get access to a shop that has a lift. It would be much cheaper to do it myself, I was thinking of getting the moroe reflexes or the rancho rs5000's.
Installing shocks is not difficult and with your truck being a 4X4 you wouldn't have to put it up on a lift but if you can that would just make it easier. If you have the tools the install is really pretty easy. If each shock comes with a plastic or nylon retainer to keep the shock from extending, don't cut that off until you have mounted the shock or at least one end of it. Once you cut the retainer, the shock will extend and you will have to compress it to get the other end connected. If you are lucky you can guide the shock into position as it extends and not have to do any compressing of the shock.
I have my torsion bars adjusted so that I can clear my 285/75/16 bfg all terrain tires, would I need to order a shock that is a little longer? also would the shocks come with instructions like for the compressing? how do you do that?
Lifetime warranty agaisnt what? So if I put them on my truck and the salt kills them in 10 years do I get new ones free? In terms of softness where do they land compared to like the rs5000's?
question about rancho shocks if anyone knows, according to rancho the part number rs5233 is for the front shocks and rs5234 is for the rear, part number rs5246 is the rear for an expedition, on ebay I found a set of all 4 shocks that claim they work on f150 and expedition but the part numbers they list are rs5233 and rs5246. Does anyone know if the part rs5246 for the rear shocks on an expedition will work on my f150?

yes; they will replace them for free
the life time warranty is against anything that goes wrong with any or all of them.
kyb's and monroes have the same warranty == life time==
i like billsteins because they are the BEST for shocks under % 100 ea.
they are what the upper end sport cars come with from factory.
you get WHAT YOU PAY FOR..
I LIKE (DEMAND) A SHOCK THAT IS GOING TO KEEP MY TIRES ON THE PAVEMENT. ...so much better ride with confidence.
RAIN OR SNOW
Thanks for all the info, I ordered 2 rancho rs5000's for my truck and they are awsome I love them the ride is SO much smoother and handling is much better and I only replaced the front two, If I had the money I would get a set for the rear but I need my brakes replaced next, aahhh the joys of owning a vehicle
