Here is a dumb question for you guys. I live 160 miles from my project truck (due to school) and I was wondering what tranny it had in it.
It is a '67 F100 shortbox, I believe it came originally with a 352 but it now has a 390. I am converting it to 4x4 and need to know what I need to do to my tranny to make it with with a married NP 205 tcase, it is the 4spd manual in it.
Yes, just as good as the 435. The T18 is cheaper to build, but doesn't have the smooth shifting the 435 has. Also the 435 has a lower granny. They are both great trannies.
Thanks for the info heep, now can I mate an NP 205 to this transmission? If not I have a C6 that will work but I'd rather have the manual in there for now.
I will probably go thru this transmission before I put it back in the pickup, is there any tips or tricks I should know about before I tear into it? Any way to make the shifts any shorter?
I thinkthe 4x4 and 4x2 versions used different output shafts. 4x4 NP's are easy to find, and you can take the bellhousing off yours to put on the new one.
Yes, but I believe you need the peice that fits in between the two that holds them together. I am at a loose for words for the name of it. The older Ford Broncos and some of the F100 4x4s had them as a matted combo.
Shorter shifts "no".
I have an NP435 Manual copied in a PDF format I can burn onto a CD. It shows step by step instructions on building it. If you would like a copy "email" me your address. All I ask is that you pay shipping.
I was back at home this weekend, and the R is up an to the right, so it is a T-18. What years of NP 435s should I be looking for? Would I have to fab up a new crossmember or would the T18 one work, its really no big deal I guess.
IF I find an Np435 I will have to drop you an email with my address Heep. How "tough" is it go through one of these trannies, I understand it is pretty straight forward.

Stay with a Ford truck NP435 (70's and 80's). The F100 should have the 435 w/ the 205 matted together allready. I believe the Dodge 435 has a different input shaft.
Email me your address now and I will get a CD manual to you so you can look at it before you buy one. The T18 are just as good, but I am not sure if they can have a 205 matted to it. Take a look at this website. I will burn a CD copy tonight.
