C4 Tranny Info

I have just stripped a Fairlane with a 351 Cleveland and a C4 tranny. I am looking for some info on the tranny as I need to do a rebuild on it. Does anyone out there have any info or diagrams to help me? And also what I should check on the tranny.

Any input would be much appreciated.....

thanks

Are you sure it is a C4? FMX trannys were usually found behind the 351C, and C4s behind 302s and 300 I6s. This is usual but not case in stone.

I was told when I purchased the transmission it was a C4. Is there any way I can check which tranny it is? It comes from a 1974 Fairlane 500. Otherwise I can post a picture if that will help.

The FMX is a 3 piece tranny, alu bell, cast iron middle, and tail shaft (heavy) The C4 has a bolt on Alu bell (bolts through the bell to the body)to an alum. body much lighter. The FMX pan is pretty square if I remember correctly. There is a photo of all of the Ford tranny pans somewhere.

Try Northern Auto Parts. Good prices on brand name tranny kits. Use em all the time. Good luck,

I don't post here much because people seem to think I have an attitude, BUT, I like to help tranny people. Go herehttp://www.bulkparts.com/
Good prices, fast shipping. Your e-mail link didn't work for me. Things to look for, is it a pan or case fill, pan is best. Is the vent on the top or side, top is best. Is it a 26 or 24 spline input, 26 is best. Depending on how much power you drop in front you might consider some upgrades. Don't be fooled, these transmissions will handle a LOT of power. Mine is getting a refresh for next year so we did a dyno pull on the engine, on the bottle it's close to 1100. C-4's are a great transmission.

heres a question for you, mine looks to be none of the above..

I have a 66 f100 2wd, 352 auto. I had assumed it was a c6, went and got a filter and gasket.. no go, ok no problem

got a c4, no go ok
third trip, take the pan with me, supposedly it is an fmx and they can order one, but the fmx is a 15-bolt pan and mine is a 14, i wound up getting a roll of cork and making a gasket..

what is going on? how can i tell what it is?

it visually looks to be an fmx, as it has 1 cast and 2 aluminum pieces
