[updated:LAST EDITED ON 20-Jul-02 AT 01:13 AM (EST)] Don't know if you've found out yet...on the axle itself, the tag usually indicates the axle type and gear ratio the first line on mine reads 8 8 3 73 (8.8 w/3:73 gears) I couldn't find anything specific in any of the books I've got....good luck!
there is no tag, but there are numbers on the housing. on the lower right under the cover there is the # 60. on the upper right of the housing, there is c39230 written up-side down. i think its a dana 60, but how do you take the brake drum off?, how can i tell if its a full or semi floating axle?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 21-Jul-02 AT 06:02 PM (EST)]i count 10 bolts, so it must be a dana 60 axle. based on my 78 ford manual, to take the brake drum off the dana axle, you must take the axle shaft out too. and the ford 9" the drum comes off the axle w/o taking the shafts out. is that right? is there a benefit to the dana compared to the ford?
i think its a sterling 10.25 now, b/c there is no bolts that connect the axle shaft to the brake drum as shown in the 78 manual for the dana 60. are there any sites that show some pics for 10.25's?
