Has anyone been able to find a good tire for the 05 18" wheel? The continentals from the factory are horrible in the snow. The only thing I can find are in the 33 - 35" range, I dont want anything that big. My other truck is running Bridgestone revos a/t, very happy with them. Anyone have a info on something simular?

martin, having the same problem with the 18's in NW Ohio.No traction on wet pavement either. Parked the F350 in snowy condition and pulled out the k3500 Chevy with Firestone Steelex, very rare to use 4x drive with these tires. Not sure if Michelin make a ltx type tread for this heavy of a truck or not. Will try to get by until next fall on these and will have to replace. My tire dealer states these Continentals are a "OK" dry weather tire at best and not to expect much performance out of them.Good Luck
I was at Les Schwab Tire Center recently and asked about 18 inch tires for the Super Duty: There are supposedly a couple of good alternatives... Toyo and a regional tire- Both are fairly agressive. The good news is that within about 6-8 months there should be quite a few other tires available in 18 inch sizes-
The closest size I have been able to find is a BFG All Terrain KO in a 285/65/18.
From past experience, BFG's are good all terrain tires, they perform well in the snow and off-road. I think Goodyear also makes a AT tire close to the size that is standard on these trucks.
As I have said before, we need to stick together on this tire issue. There are MANY unhappy SD owners due to this tire issue.
We need to do whatever it takes to get Ford's attention to rectify the problems they have created. Call Ford and complain. Start a class action suit for Fraud since they are charging us for AT tires when they are really installing all-season tires.
If I would have known these Continentals were so BAD in harsh weather, I would have gone for the 250 instead with the 17's. I have not heard of any complaints with those.
It's too bad that we basically have USELESS 4X4's in the snow. My wife's Jeep is by far better in the snow than my 7500 LB F-350.
Really,really sad!!!!
Goodyear Wrangler At's. 275/65-18. 123/120S E. A half inch less ground clearance then the Conti's but a much better tread pattern. As big 6.0 states complain to anyone that will listen. My Conti's are being replaced at no expense to me! Should also mention another drawback to the 18"'s. Local tire store in Alberta, Canada says two/three week delivery for new tires.

duMaurier, how are you getting yours replaced without cost? How many miles do you have on them? My dealer won't help me out. Tried pushing me off on a Goodyear dealer that the dealer "works with regularly". Granted, I've got 8000+ miles on mine already, but the Contis suck.
97TexasAggie,
I questioned the salesmen on the lot about the truck not having AT tires (as was listed on the window sticker); he said that they were. I phoned Continental directly and asked them; they stated the tires were strictly M&S and would not work good for moderate off road driving. To try and make a long story short I went between Ford Canada and the dealership to solve the problem. It's my understanding that Ford is picking up part of the cost and the dealer the rest (good dealer!). When my tires finally get changed I will have around 4000 miles on them. Don't give up fighting with Ford! Dealer owner told me that know one had complained about the Conti's (a lot of industrial work around here); not ten minutes later I talked with a fellow that said he's been complaining since day one of his new truck delivery. I also mentioned the Firestone fiasco on the Explorers (don't know if this helped). Ride Ford hard to get the tire option that you paid for. It's a pity that such a great truck is outfiited with inferior tires!
The Continental TR 18 inch that came standard on my 05 F350 are stamped LT275 70R 18 M&S, 125 122S the "Sticker" from Ford states the option was for same size tire but AT, Continental does have an AT in the same size and shows a great pic of the difference on their site.Sent Continental an inquiry to see what they consider the difference is between their TR and AT, more later on this.
talea 5 is it just recently you were on Conti's web site? When I went there a couple of months ago I could not find any 18' AT tires. Is your dealer going to replace the TR's for you?

Funny you should mention this, I did the same thing two days ago. I am still awaiting a reply, I will post it here if/when I get a response. There does appear to be a big difference in the tread pattern from the picture, but who knows. I did not see the 275/70/18 (AT) available in the 18" size, but I probably missed that. More info. to follow.

I have the 18" Goodyear AT's on my 04 250/SC/LB, they are not real good traction wise on the ice when in 2 wheel drive but I think that is mostly because of the light rear end on the truck and the heavy front with the diesel so we are constantly in 4x4. The AT's are OK in snow, they wear fairly quick, had a set with the same tread pattern on an Excursion did the rotation and balance thing religiously and at 25,000 they were getting down for desireable winter use. I have the Conti's on my Expedition and I'm not disappointed in them for daily driving but we usually use the truck when we get off the road, and yes I know they are 2 totally different vehicles. I've always been a fan of Goodyear's but have recently recognized there are some other good brands out there as well but just not Firestone for me (many separation issues there).

6.0/du the Contintental site does not show any Contitrac 18 inch in the TR or AT,at present made just for Ford, they have a plant in Maysville KY and trucks built in Louisville, I called North America Continental customer relations at 704-583-4845 an explained the situation. They stated (and she checked to be sure she was accurate) as I explained this was a Ford issue and I had no issue with Continental, that the 18 inch Contitrac is "only" made in the TR and is not an AT tire and the M&S rating on the TR did not make it anAT tire. My tire dealer Miller Bros in Uniopolis Ohio called Goodyear and Michelin and Bridgestone reps and none of them were even aware of the tire size switch to 18 inch. This rim also carries a new bolt patten. My dealer has not gotten back with me As seen in an earlier post the Goodyear Wrangler265 at 1/2 inch shorter may be the closest thing to date. My book from Ford shows all f- 350's SRW w has the new 18 inch and a choice of All Season or AT, I would like to know what is being used for the F 350 275 70R all season BSW, These 18 inch tires are also listed as an "Option" for the F 250 4X4 only in both OWL and BSW and AT or All Season.Im guessing one tire (the Contitrac TR) is all that was used, The issue is the $125.00 upgrade cost (window sticker),more later
