This is cheating but it is what I posted last year on the issue:
New King Ranch was ordered 1 July delivered 3 Sept. Before delivery several other site members had taken delivery of new King Ranch trucks and noted the Continental tires and how they sucked. Before delivery I asked my dealer how we could tell what tires I would be getting. No way to know was the answer from dealer and regional rep.
On day of delivery I pointed out that my accepted DORA acknowledged a build with the Optional OWL All Terrain 275R65x18 tires, that the window sticker listed the $250 option of "All Terrain" tires and that the truck was sitting there with Mud and Snow (M&S) tires and that I was not happy.
Dealer insisted that that tire is considered an All Terrain tire by Ford and nothing could be done. I took delivery and stewed about it for a week. Mean while here and the other site started getting more and more new owners complaining about having to change to a better tire because the Contie's suck.
I called Ford customer 800 number and complained that what I ordered was not delivered. Ford Rep started a file, took my statement, and told me that the matter was refered to the selling dealer for investigation and resolution.
Went to dealer same day and let them know that my complaint was not with them but to expect the problem to be dropped in their lap. They knew that this was how it would be done. They called me in when they finally received the Ford problem report later in the week.
I talked to the fellow who would be researching the probelm and asked him to follow me out to their new vehicle lot where I showed him the differences between Standard Radial, Mud and Snow (M&S), ALL Season, All Weather, and All Terrain tires. He got to see Brigstone, Firestone, General, Perelli, Continental, and Michelin tires all new from Ford.
He agreed that indeed my DORA and Window sticker clearly stated, in English, "All Terrain" and that my delivered Continental Tires were branded as Mud and Snow (M&S)tires. Continental, on their web site noted that Continental does not make an All Terrain tire in 18" but they do make "All Terrain" Tires in other sizes that are distinctly branded as such.
He submitted his findings to the regional rep who approved a refund to Cove Ford who would write me a check for $250 for an option that was not delivered. Got the check 15 October on the 7th week of ownership.
Picked up my 05 yesterday. It had conti TR's on it. I complained to my salesman as they were pealing the protective plastic off of the truck. He said he would research it. Ford told him the same BS, that these are AT's. The salesman in the interest of keeping me happy refunded my 120.00 for the upgrade (price figured at dealer invoice because I paid a little less than invoice for the truck) I decided that I was happy with this because I don't want to make enemies with my dealership in case I need them in the future. I do think Ford needs to know about this somehow, but I don't want the complaint to go against the dealer.
To all:As promised, here is a copy of my question to Continental Tires via E-Mail and the reply I received.
***My question is as follows: I purchased a new 2005 Super Duty F-350 with 18" tires supplied by your company. (Contitrac TR) Is this considered a Mud and Snow all season tire or is it considered an "all terrain?" I see that you do manufacture an "all terrain" tire (Contitrac AT).
Can you please explain the difference between the TR and the AT, and can you tell me if the AT version is available in a 275/70/18?
Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The ContiTrac AT and TR are in the same family of tires. The ContiTrac AT is an all season tire, but not all terrain. The ContiTrac TR provides excellent snow and mud traction for on and off road use. If you are looking for an on and off road tire, the ContiTrac TR would be the better of the two tires. Thank You
What do y'all think? I think Continental is well aware of the complaints about these tires and this is how they are responding. I find it really interesting that ContiTrac AT, according to Continental in NOT an All-Terrain. Just what does the AT stand for then? I think they are confused about what an All-Terrain tire is. Seems like I might have received some incorrect info????
Lets toss this one out and see what comes back " Has anyone gotten just the "all season" in an 18 inch in other words not paid the $125 for BSW or $250.00 for OWL in the AT upgrade, What tire is being furnished for the non-option 18 inch all season, (my guess is Contitrac TR also))I Email another Ford Dealer in Ohio (Mike Pruitt)and ask if they had a 18 inch AT tire for this 05 F350 and they responded that Continental does not make one.(which I would guess everyone has known)I have not seen any 18 inch wheels that did not have the Contitrac TR's on and all the window sticker state LT 275/ 70 R x 18 E ALL- TERRAIN, Another question would be "can you order this truck with (all-season) or will the order automatically kick you into the ALL-TERRAIN and add the xtra $$ ??"
Found this interesting today, I stopped at a Ford dealership in NW Ohio to look at a King Ranch, This truck still had the plastic on the seats so had just arrived (?) The 18 inch Continentals were of the "TR" tread but tires were stated Contitrac only with the Continental name listed also, the "TR" was no longer molded in. I looked at all 4 tires and the backside of the spare as this was the first time I had seen these 18 inch Continentals Conitracs with no "TR" listing just the standard M&S rating.Ford seems to be doing the same thing with the upgrade on the General tire line also as the General TR is listed as the AT upgrade from the All Season. It never ends !!The tread design picture showing the difference between the Conitrac AT and the TR on the Continental website may be ommitted next.
The only one's that make out on legitimate class actions are the attorneys (sorry attorneys) and for the $125-150 bucks we are talking about would mean a $1.25 in your pocket. My guess is the tires we see on these trucks in most cases is the lowest bid to Ford for what is considered to be a safe tire for the vehicles use. We may have to give in and trade them right away (getting little or nothing for take-offs) and buy the rims and tires we want or run them a year or so and then make a change. I struggle every time I buy a new truck and have found it isn't worth it, it isn't like days gone by where you could order exactly the tire you wanted with a rim size you desired.
I just brought home my new F350 4x4 CC this week. (SWEET!) When I ordered it, I fully intended to replace the tires with BFG mud terrains, so I just ordered the largest all terrain tires that they would give me. Of course, I ended up with the sucky 275 Conti's, too! The rep. at Big-O tires told me that the BFG mudders only come in 35" & 37" for the 18" wheels, so we are going to try one of the 35" on for size tomorrow to see if the clearances work without a lift. My truck does have the heavy front & rear suspension packages, so it sits pretty high, but I don't want to lift it any more because we tow a 5th wheel, and, believe me - it's tall enough already! I even thought about getting some new 17" rims to have more size options, but the tire-guy said by the time these tires wear out there will be a lot more options on the market - we all just need to hang in there a few months. It's gonna be hard to get rid of those take-offs, though! ~~~~~TrekChick
