I have a 1974 F250 4X4 w/390. The fan shroud was cracked and ready to fall off so I removed it. Now when idling for a while it gets hot. I called all the local parts stores but they don't supply shrouds. It's not easy to find one online. Has anyone had any luck locating one and if so where did you get it.
i had the same problem for the longest time. i finally just built one from galvanized sheet metal. it is a 2 piece design which makes it easier to remove such things as the fan, belts, water pump, and etc. i have some pics in my gallery if you are interested. good luck man i hope you get your problem solved. Put an electric fan on it from a mid eighties Celebrity or Olds Ciera. I used one and my 390 never heated up. Made the engine much quieter when running it hard also.
Mine cracked and I stuck one of those repair plates they use for lumber with a ton of holes in it on. I bent and hammered the plate to match the shape. Cleaned the plate with solvent and some fine sandpaper so the galvanizing stayed on. Cleaned the shroud with the same. Drilled some holes for pop rivets. Mixed up some 5 minute epoxy, coated everything and pop riveted it on quick. It has held for years. A little black paint would make it look better tho.
JC Whitney sells some universal chrome shrouds that you can form to fit. If I recall they arent much more than 20 bucks. You can check out my gallery to see how they look. They work great too, havent had any overheating problems.
