Here's another update 2483 miles. The first tankful after the dealer updated my computer to correct a loadup problem netted 5.0 mpg with no load and the hubs unlocked!!! This tankful with mixed hubs locked and unlocked, one trip towing 8000lbs and a delivery of lumber weighing 2500lbs netted me 8.3 mpg. Hopefully the computer update is the reason for the 8.3 mpg and will help keep it in that range. I could definatley live with 8.3 mpg for my 9600lb empty truck.

Short bed Gas engines the Fuel tanks are 30.5 gallons not 29, the 29 gallons is for the Diesel Short-box. I will take every gallon I can get out of my tank. After just 400 miles on my '05 V10/4:10s/5-speed auto I am avg 13.6mpg running empty, I wouldn't be surprised to see that mpg to increase after more miles are put on.

Time for a socal update. I avg. out the last three tanks. All mixed freeway/city driving. None of this was trying to get good milage. 13.2 MPG. Yes. This is where I want to be. I got over 4,000 miles on it now. I just keeps running better and better. This is a very, very strong truck now.

Between 200mi and 500mi 11.5 mpg in mixed driving.
Engine is still in the process of "waking up".

Because I post these numbers all the time I OBJECT!

who ever keeps posting the 30.5 gallon short bed please state your source.

No difference between fuel cell size gas or diesel

I have every 2001 to 2005 SuperDuty Sales Brochure in front of my right now. Every single one of then has 29 gallon on 6 3/4' bed and 38 gallons for the 8' beds SRW or DRW

I am not too old to learn new stuff so school me!

Don't forget 44 gallons for the Ex...
You are right with the 29gallon and 38gallon, have been like that since the update in 99 I believe.

How do I drive my F350 V10 CC 5spauto 4X4 from Victor (Jeff's place) to Philadelphia? It's about 300 miles. What rpm range and when can I use cc and for what duration until motor is broken-in.

Fredvon4, I was wondering since you are the "man in the know" here when it comes to the ford v10; do you think that if I replaced my factory muffler with a less restrictive aftermarket muffler would this help my fuel mileage? I had a FM40 on my '02 and I seemed to gain 1-1.5 mpg.

You are the fellow with the 05 and dump body and heavy plow that idles a lot and gets really low mpgs right?

OK all that aside, I really do not know. There is not enough of us who have fully broken in the 3 valve yet and started experimenting and playing on the dyno.

Because Ford did such a great job redesigning the entire exhaust on the 05s my gut says the best you can do is change the sound to louder or a little quieter but I doubt very seriously any muffler will get better or worse mpgs.

That is a big giant honking muffler can they put under there and with 3 inch in and 3.5 inch out. I do not believe it is very resterictive to begin with.

You could run three tanks of fuel through it with no muffler and see for your self if it getts any better mpgs but the neighbors will not like you!

My first 3000mile were all below 10mpg average and she did not consistantly get better than 11 until crossing past 7000miles. This week I finally crossed 10,000 and she is averaging 12.7mpg now accross three tanks manuly calculated.

No reason to pad the bill down here with all V10 minded user/owners. These are NOT great mpg numbers compared to what I got in the 01 3.73:1 F250 V10.

On the other hand the extra power and the 4.30:1 give this F350 STUMP pulling torque and is the best tow haul package I ever owned... I think it is slightly better than my 7.3L PSD even with the lousy mpg figures.
