I want to know if swap my E4OD trans with C6? I have a 93 F250 w/351w & 4DW Here are my problems;this would be the trucks 3rd trans if I put another E4OD in. I use this truck for plowing and pulling a trailer, so I am never able use the OD anyway. I know people like the E4OD but its problems are Heat, with plowing for 24-48 hours at a time the E4ODs have a short life. There is no way I would spend $2000 on a new trans for a 12 year old work truck that only costed $5000. Please advise if able to. In the end which trans is more durable and I can abuse more C6 or E4OD?
C6 is far more durable than the E4OD. C6 is one of the strongest auto trannys made, only downfall is it doesn't have overdrive. I have the C6 in my 4x4 F350, very happy with it except for the no overdrive issue. If you swap the trans, you need a C6 from a 4x4 truck with a 302, 351W or 300-6. The t-case will bolt up to the C6. Not sure if the overall length will be same or not, for driveshaft length and t-case mounting issues. The C6 has 2 different length tail/adaptor housings/shafts for the t-case. I'm guessing the longer one will probably be close to the E40D length. Might want to ask a local junkyard about that.
thanks for the info. I might just bit it a buy a souped up E4OD transmission modifed for RV/Towing. If I did not need this truck real bad I might try the swap. The OD is not big deal, but by that time I might have to mess with getting a driveshaft made or modified and seeing if the transfercase will mount the same I might just leave it be.
