I am considering buying a 2005 F 250 4x4 SD supercab long box with the 5.4L and the 3.73 limited slip axel or alternatly the 6L diesel with the same axle. I have heard that neither of these give very good milage. Could some one out there tell me what I could expect under normal highway driving conditions.
My boss has the '04 F-250 Super Duty with the 6.0L PSD 4X4 FX-4 Crew Cab with the 3.73 LS rear. He gets 17mpg around town, but that's towing a 4,000 lb trailer. On the highway without the trailer, he gets 22mpg.
I, on the other hand, have a 2002 F-250 SD Crew Cab 5.4L with the 3.73 LS rear, but mine is only a 2WD. I get 14mpg city and 16 highway (best). When we use my truck for work, I get 10-12 towing the 4,000lb trailer.
Hope this helps... as neither is the '05 5.4L gasser or 6.0L diesel. I would think the mpg's are still pretty close though.
