Inferred milage sensor 86 F150 EFI

I put a rebuild in my truck, ever since I've had it in it has run like crap when it cold, gets better as it warms up, but backfires when you give her. Feels like its getting way to much fuel, milage sucks

I read the Inferred milage sensor ages as the engine ages, and changes the EEC outputs to match the high milage engine.

Should the sensor be replace, whould this cause the problem,
or could it be something else.

1986 F-150 5.0l EFI 4 spd 4x4
190000km before rebuild

LAST EDITED ON 12-Jan-01 AT 09:42 PM (EST)[p]Nope, he's right. It is an inferred mileage sensor, I see it in my Ford shop wiring manual for my '88 Bronco. I have no idea what it actually does and the shop manual doesn't tell me how to reset it. I've got 205K miles on my truck now and 18K on my engine so if it does something bad, I'd like to reset it.

It's located to the right side of the computer mounting bracket, which is in the center of the dash under the radio. It's actually an E-coil, with three wires leading to it. Has the initials I M S on it. That's all the info I have.
