I am getting ready to put in a Transgo reprograming kit in my 88 Bronco with an AOD. Who else has one of these in thiers? How do you like it? Any ups or downs? Thanks!
I put one in my '73 Bronco, 302 V8/4bbl, 31x1050x15 tires. Would bark the tires when shifting to second when getting on it a little, but I started having trouble with CV joints right after I put it in.
i know someone that installed one in his AOD and it worked for about 6 mnths. now it drives like normal. those shiftkits really arent the best way to improve the performance in your tranny. i know its cheaper but talk to a few tranny shops in your area about beefing yours up properly. it will last alot longer and perform far better. I to was thinking of doing this but after fellow bronco guys came back with similar results its made me wait to build it right the first time ya know.
Well, I am going to rebuild it also, but I have not even seen any better ones out there yet, I have looked through summit and other places and those tend to be the most expensive.

the one you want is the AOD-HDSR/TPWR one. it comes with the 4r70w gear set that is a lower first and second gear and are also much stronger. this will be the tranny i get when mine finally dies. i know a few other bronco guys running this tranny and they love it.
There is no way I am going to spend that much on a tranny! I could rebuild mine three times for the price of that. Now if I had the money that would be a different story. I am just talking about a good shift kit or something. i maybe go offroading twice a month and very rarley tow, but yet I still want a good firm shift.
I've installed several different styles of shift kits. The TransGo is a good one, since you can choose your shift firmness. You eliminate some of the check *****, swap out springs, and drill and pin some of the oil passages. How could it go back to normal shifting after doing all this? lol I think you won't like the firmest setting. The AOD shifts way too hard in this configuration. It will slam shift in 1 thru 3, and the 2 piece input shaft will not take it for long. I would suggest a transmission cooler too, if you don't already have one.
Really? That is strange, I have just heard from so many people that the transgo is the way to go. The tranny that I am going to be putting it in is an 82 and the transgo kit is for 83 and up, so I have to steal a valve body from a newer one and put it in the 82.
