dual fuel woes
i recently bought a 87 F 150 with 300/6 and dual tanks. the first time i switched from rear to front, it ran for about 3 minutes and then acted as though it was running out of fuel. the front tank is full, the gauge pegs out on the full side. now when i switch from rear to front, the gauge still pegs out at full, but the truck is actually running off the rear tank. the rear tank gauge doesn't work right either till almost dry. what tests should i try. thanks

The first thing to do is get a good wiring diagram, and check the power at the switch and valve. It sounds like the valve isn't switching, but it could also be junk in the front tank.

thanks for the hi-dy hoe. i'm not much of a embroider in the schematics electricty. but since my first post, i took off the 4 wire plug that was on the in tank pump, no juice. some of the wires were exposed, fixed that. took the switch in dash out, don't have an ohms meter, stuck test light instead. red wire lit up, but red with orange stripe was a dull bulb.

Do a search in the "87-96 f-series" forum or in the "80-86 f-series" forum for "dual tank". You will get MANY posts that explain EVERYTHING! The dual tank system were the same from 1980 thru the early 90s, and they all have problems, it is very common. Good luck.
