Radio antennas for the '73-'79

What kind of mast did your radio antenna come with stock? Telescoping or whip?

Mine came with a solid whip, but I am having a devil of a time locating an OEM replacement for the unit. They are either a Universal-mount model that does not BOLT to the fender as the original did, OR, a telescoping model (weak, and prone to breakage by Crack addicts who need a crack pipe).

Where do you get such an animal?

Mine had the telescoping type - which a pheasant took care of for me. I prefered the thin flexible mast of the '80+ trucks so I put one of those on. The base was different (the mounting point was identical and fit great) but the mast mount and wire end was different. So I got the mast, base and wire from a '85 and it fit right on and looks great. Best of all, it's flexable and not broken...

Maybe The mount for the antennas changed in 1978. Finding a replacement for a 78-79 is easy as pie, so I finally got the mount from a 79 and put it in my 77.

I bought a replacement antenna for my 79 F100 at Auto Zone. It looks just like the original antenna.

I would've rather just bought a replacement. But the stock antenna on my '73 did not seperate from the base. So I had to replace the base too. Now that I have a '85 base, I can just replace the mast - if there's a next time...
