If you have it done by a Ford performance shop or dealer it will still be covered. Just more expensive to use ford parts and labor. That's probably the way I'm gonna go because I'm in the same boat. I do like my warranty.
From what I was seeing, this is for an '04 v10. HP went from 310 to 415 and torque went up to almost 600 lb/ft. That was just the charger and it's accompanied parts. It was slightly over $5.5k though. Think about it this way though, you would pay more than that much for a 6.0 diesel. Power is just in a different RPM range, higher up.
But to answer for the 5.4. They say with most superchargers, you can look at 30 - 40% gains in hp / torque, depending on the original efficiency of your engine. Price wise it depends what you get. The centrifugal powerdynes are cheap, but not as efficient or powerful as the roots type. The ford factory one is root type, bolts on top of the intake manifold and has 2 counterrotating screws. Centrifugal is much like a turbo in design, except it's powered by the crank rather than exhaust.
If you go aftermarket, stick with ATI, Vortech, Kenne Bell, or Whipple. Stay away from the others. Also look for one that has it's own lubrication. Some require you to tap into your oil pan or oil system. This not only requires you to modify parts, but also uses hot engine oil to lube the charger, increasing heat, and reducing overall power from the hotter air that goes in.
The KB kit for my V10 was $3950. The kit was very complete, came with everything I needed right down to the last hose clamp, easy to install as well, just a little time consuming. As far as power gains for the 5.4, I'm not sure. Unfortunately I never had a dyno run prior to the install so I don't know exactly what increase occured. I just know that there was a huge difference. Before some fine tuning and some other mods (supercharger only), I was getting 323 rwhp and 461 rwft lbs of torque. Within the next couple of weeks I plan on getting new dyno runs done now that I have the bugs worked out.
BFR250SD,
Are the numbers you posted for the '04 V10 at the flywheel or the rear wheels? Also, you're right about eBay, what I couldn't return ended up on the auction.
I'm assuming flywheel, these are the numbers I was getting from Ford. The numbers you have at the rear wheel sounds right though, assuming it's an auto.
Who did you get the KB through and did you do the install? Got any pics?

BFR250SD, I got the kit straight from Kenne Bell and I did the install myself with the help from a buddy. Easy install, very detailed easy to follow instructions. Pics to follow! The numbers I posted early were before some additional mods and a little fine tuning, I expect them too increase quite a bit. Once I get the new dyno numbers I'll post the results.
The programmer is in and in the 93 octane setting now. Havent really got to play with it yet. But I did put on the 4 inch Pro Comp lift and i think it looks great. Will be much better with 36 inch tires this spring. As you can see it was one hell of a dirty job in the middle of winter with the road grime and stuff
That link will detail his trucks lift and T-body spacer install, this weekend we will add his new dual exhaust. Its a Walker Dynomax system with dual outlets, not a true dual system....yet.
