I have a 2002 Ford Ranger, 2 WD. I was replacing my front brakes and turning my rotors. I removed the grease cap the pin and the nut holding the rotors. I also removed the caliper. The housing or bracket that holds the caliper would not come off. Is there something I should know?
There are usually 2 bolts that hold the caliper frame to the knuckle.
They are usually tight with factory loctite.
Use a 6 point socket and a cheater bar to avoid banged up fingers.
If they are allen/torx type, then make sure that you have the correct size tool, clean the dirt/rust out, and tap it in with a hammer.
If you slip and round out the bolts, then buy new bolts from dealership (I would only use OEM for these).
Use locktite when you put these bolts back and tighten to several grunts (check for torque spec if you are not comfortable using grunts)
BTW.. beware of machiining modern brake disks. They are not what they used to be. You start taking metal off and they will warp the first time you reall get on them. Might consider new ones. If you do buy new.. you do not have to replace the bearings.. just bang the races out with a brass drift and then tap them into the new rotors.
