I-35W just before Burleson (Exit 1187 or Alsbury) and there's just about everything you could want...

The Olive Garden there is probably the best in the Metroplex...
Logan's is good for a LOT of things (especially the peanuts you throw all over the floor !)

we're 5 miles from there and although getting busier, it's usually quicker to eat there than the cooper st area by the Parks mall...

Burleson is a loooooong way from TMS. Not sure but the folks from the north may not want to go that far south. Surely there is somewhere either in north FT Worth or Denton.

Well, I guess it's all relative...
when u run around the mtroplex all the time...
"just around the corner" is NOT just around the corner anymore

I just made a run last night from around Burleson up to North Richland Hills, then to Knox-Henderson, then to Arlington, then back home....

So, "a long way" is all relative

El Rancho Grande is EXCELLENT Tex-Mex on the northside of FTW... just west of I-35w @ Northside/Yucca exit...
let's see if this link works:

The reason for the North side was because of the Swap Meet at Texas Motor Speedway. It seems like a good reason and location to meet. The problem I've seen in the past for such GTG's is LOCATION. TMS seems like a good location especially with one of the biggest swap meets around on that particular weekend.

IF the get together were to be at the speedway, the restaurants that are most convenient to that area is what we are discussing.

Coming through Fort Worth from the South is not very tough these days as long as we don't do anything on a Friday night. If you had to go North of Dallas on 35E that would be a different story.

Have a great day,
Doc

Hey all. like the post said TMS is northwest FT Worth. I can't hardly see 10 to 20 folks trying to convoy very far. I'd like to see everyone drive as lil as possible so more time can be spent visiting. Lewisville is pretty close and so is Justin. I'll talk to a coworker who lives out thataway and locate a few choices. I'm in Irving so it doesn't matter all that much to me where as I'm used to traversing anywhere for a good fellowship and meal.

ol yeller,

I agree with your thinking. Let me throw this out for thinking, I mentioned BBQ only because someone earlier in the thread seemed to have a taste for it and it usually is a crowd pleaser.

Once you start getting some responses from those who are indeed interested in attending, then take a poll of what would be the TYPE of food that everyone wants. That area you were talking about that is South of the speedway has all kinds of restaurants, or Denton has all kinds, but further away.

SURELY there's SOME kind of restaurant that will be acceptable to the crowd. For me, I'm pretty easy to please except that Mexican Food and Italian usually don't work very well since I've been on the Atkins diet for a few years. That said, I'm easy to please and can deal with anywhere that the crowd wants to go as long as it hasn't been on notice from the Board of Health. So, put me down for whatever you guys decide on. Hopefully that will make it easier for you.

Let me know if I can help in pulling this together. I live well over 100 miles from TMS to the NorthEast so it's difficult to prerun the course for you, but whatever I can do from here to help you, just let me know.

I have attended GTG's for another forum and the guys always seem to want to bring food, cook out and all that. I'm not a fan of that type get together because it seems to take away from the visiting time and the time to poke around on each others vehicles. I prefer to get together and just bring your own brown bag, or get together for the visit and then caravan somewhere to let the restaurant worry about that stuff.

My $0.02,
Doc

Cool I'll do some checking in the next week and post some ideas. I'll eat just about anything but raw fish. I do know there is a Golden Corral in Lewisville. That would be a good variety and lots of room. I'll keep yall posted.

Ol Yeller,

Is there not a Golden Corral or some such closer, or are my directions all screwed up? It seems like it's a pretty good distance to Lewisville from TMS. I will get a map.

There are two things we need to start thinking about; an actual landmark as TMS where we can all find each other and settle in with places to park our trucks and maybe set out a few lawn chairs so we can visit, the other is to go ahead and make it clear the date.

April 30 is a Saturday, so it would seem like if we started gathering about mid to late morning and then set a time to caravan for eats, that might work. One idea might be that for those who want to make a day of it can bring sandwiches, fast food or whatever for lunch and then have mealtime set for an early dinner, like 4:30 or 5:00. It might be better to have Dinner later because we would probably break up after that.

As far as where to meet, I don't know how crowded the raceway gets on swap meet weekend. I have been there before when something was going on and we went into the infield because my brother in law was crew chiefing for a Formula Mazda team. If the swap meet is on the parking lot like that event was, there was plenty of parking lot on the SouthEast side of the complex.

I will see if I can find anything out about the swap meet so we can see where it might be possible to get together.

Have a great day,
Doc

There is a Ryan's Down in Keller on hiway 377. Its not far at all. There is a Po Melvins that has down home cookin in Southlake about 2 off hiway 114 at the Carroll avenue exit. Its further into town but easy access as well. Golden Corral is also in Keller on hiway 377 about the same as Ryan's. Take a vote and choose. Then I'll get the map and parking info posted or emailed to whoever wants it.

Dave,

I think that info is a Giant step forward. If you can show a location where we get together along with a date and time, then you can start polling folks for their meal preference. Good work.

I have found that the event is going to be in the west lots. These are section 1 thru 3A. The parking is supposed to be in the lots just west of that. I figure to get there on saturday the 30th around 10 or 10:30. Not sure if you can park aywhere or not but think out away from the main parking west of section 2 would be good. Yall look at the event setup and parking and see what ya think.

I looked at that map, and I fully expect that there will be hardly anyone on the far eastern portion of that lot where the road makes an arc. I'm thinking the center part of that lot right on the edge of the road. That way we will be easy to find. The only down side will be that we will be a long way from restrooms and hot dog stand, but we can always motor over there when the need arises.

On that map there are circled X's. The one that is farthest East is what might work. What do you think?

Have a great day,
