hey fenders
are you using just lap belts or retractable shoulder belts ? reason why im asking is that i was wondering what type you are using and if they are gonna interfere with the speakers? i have bought but havent installed a pair of mid fifty shoulder belt anchors and was just wondering
Just lap belts. I painted before I gave belts any serious thoughts. They are removed now (obviously), but they don't interfere in any way, whether lap or shoulder style. Speakers are a good 3-4 inches away from mount.
Fatfenders you said you used masonite, you talking of that concrete-based board also refered to as wonderboard sometimes? gray color...
Masonite is tempered hardboard it used to be seen a lot in older homes of the 40s and 50s. Its that white sided panel board usually found on the walls around bath tubs. And showers, it usually had aluminum trim around it. Some homes also had it around the kitchen sinks.
I want to make sure I understand the masonite/tempered hardboard/cement board stuff. From a little web browsing, it looks like Masonite is one brand of tempered hardboard. From the information I read, if you have one of those standard brown clipboards, that's tempered hardboard.
Is that what you used Dewayne?
think of pegboard without the holes.... you can tell the tempered stuff cause it has a 'harder' look and is a little darker in color. usually a more polished finish than regular masonite. Go to H.D. or Lowes and ask for it... the friendly aproned hardware/lumber/plumber/appliance monkeys will know what you mean...

Pretty darn close George. Maybe not as stiff, but a clipboard is certainly made from some grade of hardboard. They do make the better pegboard out of the tempered stuff too. I have some in the garage and would have taken a PIC had I known it would be this complicated. It really isn't though. I've never tried to buy it anywhere at a lumber yard and had it not be in stock. Tempered hardboard is the correct name for it around here.
And John, it wasn't very nice of you to refer to the lumber yard employees as monkeys. What if they all started calling us mechanics.......... no wait, they been calling us grease monkeys for decades. Lumber monkeys it is then.
Did you paint the hardboard before placing it behind the seat? Or would there be a need to? If it's tempered hardboard, that has a slick finish, right? COurse iffen ah had a back winder in my truk, tha wuddent be a problum.
Just wondering if you could take the thinner masonite and do the corners.
I do like the idea of the velcro though.
On the sheet metal warping with the music thing...Is that some new secret govco propulsion system, stolen form the Roswell UFO? Oh you military boys

No need to, the stuff is very water resistant, but not saltwater immersion proof. It is used as the backing for bathroom paneling. It can take a fair amount of abuse. Now the non-tempered is what I call TV board because they use it on the back of console TVs. And you Southerners all know what happens when you leave an old TV in the front yard too long. Starts looking bad after a couple rains.

I tried, it won't work if you care what it looks like.

That's just 'fenders talking big. I do know where there is a AVI on the web. An audio company in WA state that has a demo clip of one of their competition loud subs. My system doesn't get stupid loud like that. You can smoke your hearing real fast. Mines already bad enough from 25 years of air tools, cannon fire and my wife yelling at me to take my dirty socks off the coffee table.
