Engine Stalls
I drove the vehicle about 500 yards when the engine stalled like it was out of gas. I vented the radiator and loosened the gas cap. The truck started and it drove like new.
The next day, once the vehicle heated up it again stalled twice. I made it to work and then after work on the drive home it stalled every 1000 feet. I wait 3-5 minutes and it would start and then 1000 yards later it would stall again.
I was thinking it may be a fouled fuel filter but I can't get why it stalls like it is out of gas. Is there anything on the 302 that will cut of gas supply??? or is it fouled distributor?????
The easiest way is to have the air cleaner off. When it dies, look down the top of the carb and cycle the throttle a few times and look for any fuel from the accelerator pump circuit. If you have someone with you, remove the coil wire and test for spark while they crank the engine. Does it do it on both tanks (if you have dual)?
If you let it idle instead of driving it, will it stay running? There may be enough fuel to idle the engine, but it may not be getting enough to run under load.
There are several things that could be causing this: bad fuel pump, collapsing fuel hose, plugged filter. I don't suspect an ignition problem such as a module, pickup, or coil because you said that it starts within about 5 mins. Could have a bad connection or short that causes an open circuit, and once it cools will allow some current flow but it's a stretch.
