Lower than invoice prices
I know with the X Plan you get a little below invoice, not counting rebates, but do many people here do better than that ?
I feel pretty good about getting a 05 F-250 4X at invoice from my dealer, and he's going to have a couple options (grille, exhaust, etc...) added which will also be at his cost (which is better than I can get them for). I've been to other dealers that won't even move from MSRP
Should I push to get lower than invoice ?

You can get a Super-Duty through FTE for $500 below invoice (or $500 below X-Plan). Of course, you have to come to NY to pick up the truck. But, if I can do it, any dealer can (if they want to).
I just ordered my F250 SD yesterday, 1-14-05. Asked for and got it for invoice. Maybe should of tried for more but here in Tropical mid MN I am satisfied with that price. 3-4 months ago a different dealer said he would order one for me for $100.00 over invoice. I told the dealer I bought from, about this and they said "would you buy if we order one for $100 over invoice" and I said "make it invoice" and it was approved and done deal. They said it will take 6 to 8 weeks to get it.
Weevil,
Make sure to keep track of what rebates are offered (here is one of the best places to find out about them) so you get the benefit of them versus the dealer. My dealer was not very forth comming about what was out there and I'm unclear whether I would have received one of them without knowledge gained here.

Yes thanks,I'm going to keep up with the rebate news. I don't qualifiy for any X rebates or any of that special kind. But I do qualify for the one Ford has available 1-11-05 thru 3-31-05 Which is $1000 OR low interest the rates depending on how long you finance. Dealer said I will get all rebates in effect at the time of delivery so I'm hoping rebates will be higher then now, but who knows? GM and Dodge have better rebates at this time then Ford. (One reason I almost bought Dodge) I'm hoping Ford gets competitive with their rebates by the time my truck comes.

Can I ask something? Why this fixation with getting X-Plan all the time? Again, if I can sell for $500 below invoice (which is within a few bucks of $500 below X-Plan), why can't you just walk into a dealer and say, "I can buy this truck on the internet for $500 below invoice with no games and no hassles. Sell it to me for X-Plan and you've got a deal." What am I missing by not having actual X-Plan benefits? Well, I'm missing out on the $500 AQHA rebate, because you can't get that with X-Plan.
Whoever did this great job of selling X-Plan pricing to the public should be selling cars for a living. It just seems to me one extra step, one extra hassle that you just don't need.

I was pondering over that myself Jeff. At first, only been looking for a month now, the x-plan seemed like a big deal. As I read and talk to people it seems like you can do better without it with very little hassel. The quote I got today on the truck I like was $300 under x-plan. I did not have to do much other then start walking off the lot. The salesman came down fast, not that I was gonna buy today anyways.
Jeff, I think it was more of a hot item 4 years ago or so. It was hard to get any dealer to talk invoice, at least that was my experience. X Plan seemed like some mystical offering from Ford which only allowed certain people in. Back then anyone with 40 bucks could get in on it if you knew where to go. Same thing goes today, you may not even need the $40. I think a lot of people were attracted by the whole "here is the price, it's set in stone" thing. No BS administrative or documentation fees. More or less a no-brainer.
Nowadays it is a bit over rated. When I bought my truck from you I could have used it, but like you said, under invoice and AQHA was a better deal. I guess at certain times X Plan has an additional rebate that makes it more attractive by a couple hundred bucks or so, at least on a Super Duty.
When I was shopping for my Bullitt Mustang the best offer I could get was $1000 over invoice. Most would not come off sticker. Some sold for more than sticker
At that time X Plan was a few bucks less than invoice on a Mustang, prior to them tacking on the $150. When I landed X Plan, I asked one dealer if they would take it on a Bullitt, they said no. The second dealer said absolutely. But that was 4 years ago, this is now. Today I would just say "Jeff, order me this" and we'd be done with it
No surprises, no games.
