Hey, Welcome to the site!I dont have an answer for ya, but i know i like my Superchip tuner for my pick up.A chip or a tuner will probaly help mileage some, but at the expense of having to run premium fuel.It will help with the trans shifting, firmer shifts-not too harsh, hold a gear a little longer. The trans help is worth it alone in my opinion. You might try the computer/chip/tuner forum also. The tuner is better than the chip because of the flexibility of the features.
I am using the Superchip 1715 on my 1999 F250 SC V10 auto. I noticed an improvement in seat of the pant acceleration and mileage stayed about the same. Using premium isn't that big of deal as I live close to work. The only thing I don't like is the extremely hard shifts. Even with it tuned at the softest level it really bangs the gears hard. At full throttle I don't mind, but at part throttle it is a bit annoying. Next time I am going to try Hyperchip, Jet or something else.

Will a straight shift tuner override the performance chip ? I've seen several of those that are adjustable, from hard to just slightly firmer than stock. Can the Superchip be re-tuned for shifts ? The Hypertech plug in tuner, is it tuneable either for shifts and or performance ? I'd like better shifting, but I don't want to run premium, I drive alot. But I've always wondered about e-shift tuning and any long term negatives. Ken
Ken, the Superchip tuner can adjust shift points, pressure without adding the engine tune part.I have had my tuner set a max shift press for about 70,000 miles with no problem.I do not think you can have a chip and a tuner together.Everyone i ever asked says the higher shift press saves the trans.
The fellow that said the shifts are too hard must have some other problem because in part throttle shifts they are pretty soft, the full throttle shifts are not neck snapping by any means.I have run mine hard at times and not have any trans problems whatsoever.
