I want to put a cb radio in my 04 f150 Heritage. I would like to mount it on the ceiling of the cab in the middle above the rear view mirror. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with screwing/drilling into their headliner. I know the headliner itself will not hold the cb but I was wondering if there was enough metal behind the headliner to drill/screw into without drilling through the roof. Thanks for any info you guys can provide.
It is probably around 2 pounds, I am at school right now but when I get home I will get an accurate weight and get back with you. But by guessing I would say about 2 pounds.
if it's just 2 pounds, i would mount the screws facing down, heads up. The headliner is actually pretty stiff, i've removed it before. But I would definitely either make a large flat piece of fiberglass to mount to, or something considerable. Possibly a piece of sheet metal, like 3'x3'.
With sheet metal, you can curve it to the contour of the roof. Just remove the rubber door seal, the rear quarter plastic pieces, the front a-pillars (handles first), and then the headliner. Slap the sheet metal in there, pre-drilled with the correct holes, and take some measurements of fitment/placement. Then drill it through the headliner. Run all your wires down the A-pillar and reassemble.
Hope this helps. At one time, I wanted to make a fiberglass headliner to mount amps, and give me more room for subs behind the seat of my RCAB. So i've put a lot of thought into roof mounting....things.....
Is there any metal supports behind the headliner? Any brackets of any kind? Or can you not see them because of some kind of insulation? I am planning on installing my cb soon, but right now in Ohio the temp isnt going above 20 degrees and thats too cold for me to work on my truck.
