I'm glad to see so many guys in their 20's. You are the future of our cause. I'm 46 and started working on old cars when I was 18. It was a 64 Plymouth Belvedere with a slant-six motor.
In 93 I bought my 55 Fairlane.
In 01 I bought her 54 F100
And in 04 I bought the 68 F100
I'm soon to be 54. I've had so many vehicles over the years that I'll list just the best.
In my pre-settled down days I had a 63 Fairlane 170 I-6 (1st engine I ever rebuilt at the time...w/ my dad's help); a 55 Ford tudor 292 y-block (modified with every latest performance parts at the time...this car moved !); 56 F-100 292 (traded it for $100 & a chain saw back in 70 & always said I'd get another) and a 70 Torino Gt 429 Cobra Jet 4 spd ...my fave.
Post settled days saw my share of Torino station wagons, Pinto station wagons, etc but my favorite was my 88 F-250 7.3 Diesel I bought new and kept until I bought my 2001 F-250.
Presently my favorites are my 56 F-100 , my 54 F-350, and my daily's: 2001 F-150 & 2001 Expedition. Never owned a foreign car...in fact never owned anything but Fords (about the only exception to this would be that Cheby in my 56 F-100...but hey, it came that way and was a good deal!)After years of being out of the loop, I bought my 56 a little over a year ago and the 54 this past summer. It's been 20 years since I stopped mechanics for a living but it has been extremely enjoyable getting back into it as a hobby!
Norb
Norb,
My shouts of "Chevy Guy" toward you were completely misguided. My apologies. That's a pretty nice list of Fords. You've got me beat on the Blue Oval count for sure. And I also noticed you are a "Pinto Brother" too. Man what a machine! Brings a tear to the eye just thinking about it.
Born in '69 which makes me 35 if my math is right. Got the restoration bug from Dad. He was restoring his '47 Ford Deluxe Coupe when I lived up in Wisconsin. When we moved back to Illinois, I decided it would be fun to restore a truck. Right! I knew I wanted a Ford but I had no real connection to any particular year. I did some looking around on the internet and liked the '53-'55 body style. Found my '53 in the local paper and the rest is history. I have a twin brother and we always shared a car in high school and college. Got my first new car after I graduated from college and got a job.
'72 Ford Custom 500
'83 VW Scirroco
'82 Dodge Omni
'84 Honda Accord
'96 Saturn Sedan
'98 Mazda B-4000
'96 Crown Vic Police Interceptor (Bluesmobile) - Bought it at an auction. They were practically giving them away.
I'm about 55. They say the memory is the second thing to go and I can't remember the first. Really I can't remember not messing with junk. Thats what my wife calls it, I call it junque. The last three have been frame off's. Come to think about it, everything else mighta been junk.....Hot Rods & Harleys rule.
I am 17, almost 18. I was born into 4-wheeling, then my dad sold the 4-wheel drives and got into (or back into) streetrodding. So I have a 1948 F-1 for my hotrod and a 1981 F-100 Flareside as a daily driver.
I thought I was going to be one of the "young guns", apparently not. Lotsa guys younger than me, and probably with more talent, not neccessarily more $$$ though......or maybe that too......
I'm 51. Learned to drive on the farm in a '56 GMC stepside at about 14 or so. Growing up flatheads were a fact of life, but not especially desirable. Back then, like today you wanted the newest, hottest engine out there.
I bought my 48 F1 about 6 years ago and revived a memory that I had relegated to the past. Now the old stuff finds me. There's a 52 F2, a '62 F100, '73 F100 4x4, 77 F150 in the pasture, a '70 fastback Stang in the garage, etc.

Hey all, I'm 31. When I was 16, I spent my summer raisin' nmoney to buy my first car. 69 Pontiac Lemans convertable. Cut school, drove to the beach and hung out all day, those were the days! Got half way home when the motor seized, and wouldn't you know it, my father had the nerve to say he wasn't coming to get me?! Since then, I had a 71 Firebird (455), 78 Chebby C30 pickup, 69 Bronco, several 78 - 80 firebirds and camaro's, 79 F-350 4x4 w/ 38.5 Super Swampers, a 79 F-350 Extended cab battle wagon, 86 Chebby Blazer w/44's, oh wait............ My wife gave me her car when we got married, an 88 Hyundai Excel, which I promptly spray painted racing stripes on......... Hey, I've got my dignity(lol) I've also owned many other vehicles, but my fingers are cramping up!!
ok...well heres a shock for all of ya...cept for maybe one person.....but 16 now, and have done a few restos with the old man.....so i suppose i could say ive been screwin around with all these old "treasures" for (well ive been in MN almost 8 years now, so it was pretty close to that....unless tractors count too.. ) Dad jus kind of drug me out to the shed and taught me in pretty young (that way he didnt have to do all the work) so id say its been in the 10-11 year range....5-6 years old...seems pretty wild now that i think about it....maybe thats how i did the jeep more or less by myself (parents jeep, parents funding) the last two-three years, and now this "wonderful" (haha) old '53
the old John Deeres date back to the North Dakota days...and that was right before MN
I'm 46. Dad bought a small Ford dealership in 1973.
Starting in 1976 I spent 15 years circle track racing with 427's and 351 bosses till they got scarce and then moved to 427,400,and 350 bowties.
I've had a number of T-Birds,4x4's and Mustangs,one of which I still have (1970 fastback,351 cj).Started the f-100 thing about 8 years ago when I bought my 55.
