I'm 36 and have had my 56 F-250 (along with a 67 Mustang) for the past 10 years.

Messed around with my best friend's 69 Mach 1/351C in high school and that's where the Ford bug bit me. Sold my college car after grad and used the money to buy $1,200 worth of tools, then began looking for a Mustang to work on. Started really learning when I bought a 67 Mustang convertible in 1994. Restored the interior and floors. Inherited the truck from my family the next year.

I'm just now putting together a full blown shop to get down to business on the truck.

Born in '55, got my learners permit in May of 71 at age of 16 and drove my brother's '57 Chevy with a 327 and .411 gears the day the permit came in the mail. First car was a '62 Corvair, they were cool! Drove my brother's '68 SS Camaro to the Junior prom: 427 (with 396 badging), Mickey Thompsons in the rear that stuck out the fenders, my date didn't like it but the guys did! After first year in college bought a black '57 Chevy Bel Air ('283, all stock except the chrome mags and airshocks). In 1977 bought my Grandfather's '54 F-100 cause the Power Glide transmission went out on the '57 and I needed a way to get back to college that summer and fall. Then bought a '55 Chevy 210, 2 tone, looked real sharp! After my first year teaching school (and not living cheap at Mom and Dad's) realized I couldn't afford all 3 vehicles on the teacher's salary of the day. Sold the '57. Years later, found a girl I could take home to Mom and sold the '55 Chevy to buy an engagement ring. (Ha-Ha) Kept the F-100 all those years and I am glad I did. My wife loves it! when I got it painted in 1999 she let the truck have the garage and the minivan sits in the driveway. My brother and I have had some pretty cool cars, at one time we had 2 '55's, 1 '56, 3 '57's between us and all we have now is my truck and he has his 68 Camaro! I hope you guys don't black ball me for talking about mid-Fifty Chevy's!!! My brother also has a '53 F-600 dump truck.

I'm 40. My Dad was a tank mechanic in the Korean war and taught me how to fix trucks on the farm. I cut my teeth on a 47 2N Ford tractor rebuild when I was 13. I have been working on old stuff ever since, mostly Ford but some of the other brand also. My Dad could fix or make anything, I was 18 before I knew you could buy NEW parts for anything.

I am now passing on this family tradition to my 15 year old son as we renew a 1960 effie to be his first truck and everyday driver. This is the first y-block I have worked on. He seems to be having a ball.

I'm coming up on 37 and have had my f600 10 years. Bought from a close friend when he got behind on his rent. Paid $500. Still have the truck, the close friend died of cancer 4 1/2 years ago. I miss the old bugger. His spirit lives on in the truck, especially the cantankerous part. Also own or have owned:

65 Mustang 6 cyl. (Graduation gift)
66 Mercury Comet (Bought from grandma when mustang died)
71 MGBGT (Owned for 18 years will never sell)
65 MGB (Car my bride and I left the wedding cermony in)
59 MGA Coupe (Always wanted one, then I sold it. Regrets)
78 Toyota pickup (no maintenance done ran forever 300,000 miles plus when dead)
79 Mustang (Wifes car when we married)
82 Bronco (owned three years, two trannys later, sold it)
86 F250 (460 ext. cab beautiful truck, very thirsty)
37 Ford dump truck (my future resto project)
95 Dodge Cummins 2500 (Wifes work truck and horse trailer puller)
00 Dodge Dakota 4x4 ( My newest vehicle, don't recognize much under hood)
This list doesn't include parts cars or parts of cars, or race cars.
Man it has been fun.

37. Bought the '55 in Feb of 2002. Previous cars:

1969 Ford Torino GT Fastback
1971 Buick Skylark (two door) wi/transplanted 350

My dad has had a '55 Ford p/u since I was 5. I can remember the day he brought it home. Bought it from my Grandfather, $75.00, bee's nest and all.

He and I are both working on the trucks, his back to stock, mine "modern stock". I'm a bit further into the project than he though. He's been tinkering for 20+ years now, and still no real progress.

I'm 42, passion for cars evolved throught the years.

First the Big block Mopar Muscle cars days. 70 Challenger R/T 440CI (I want another one real bad now)

Then the exploratory years. 31 Chevy Sedan (never finished, I want another one real bad now). 73 MG Midget convertible (Now there's a good 1200# car for the Iowa ice

Ton of Pintos during the poor college student phase. The one with Starsky and Hutch stripes was the only cool one. (Done em myself with a little help from Krylon, no runs, no drips, no errors. Actually found a wife driving that thing. Then I bought her a 73 Monte Carlo with a drivers door caved in so bad you had to enter/exit the passenger side. Wanted to see if the marriage had any staying power before I bought her any new stuff. Or maybe we were just that broke.

Fifteen year stint with El Caminos. About six of them. Mostly 70-72 One with a big block. (I want another one real bad now)

Nova 454 drag car. Couldn't afford to make it hook up at all. Still fun to drive. Don't want another one.

My Effie phase is only about five years old.

44 yrs old, here. Been turning wrenches as long as I can remember. First frame off project was a 62 Jeep; home made body all 1/16” steel built everything except the hood and cowl. Also a redo of a 76 vette, sold that to fund my 54 that I’ve been blundering though for a couple of years.

Now THIS is a good thread!

I'm soon to be 54. I've had so many vehicles over the years that I'll list just the best.

In my pre-settled down days I had a 63 Fairlane 170 I-6 (1st engine I ever rebuilt at the time...w/ my dad's help); a 55 Ford tudor 292 y-block (modified with every latest performance parts at the time...this car moved !); 56 F-100 292 (traded it for $100 & a chain saw back in 70 & always said I'd get another) and a 70 Torino Gt 429 Cobra Jet 4 spd ...my fave.

Post settled days saw my share of Torino station wagons, Pinto station wagons, etc but my favorite was my 88 F-250 7.3 Diesel I bought new and kept until I bought my 2001 F-250.

Presently my favorites are my 56 F-100 , my 54 F-350, and my daily's: 2001 F-150 & 2001 Expedition. Never owned a foreign car...in fact never owned anything but Fords (about the only exception to this would be that Cheby in my 56 F-100...but hey, it came that way and was a good deal!)After years of being out of the loop, I bought my 56 a little over a year ago and the 54 this past summer. It's been 20 years since I stopped mechanics for a living but it has been extremely enjoyable getting back into it as a hobby!
