I haven't had my 95 F350 PSD long, but while changing the oil the other day I noticed the engine , mainly under the flip top where the fuel filter is ,is very dirty. I was wondering if it was safe to spray some type of degreaser under there and then rinse with water. I dont want to short anything out or cause any problems, so any help would be nice.
I can't tell you if it will or will not damage your rig but, I have 99 F350 and I've kept it clean as whistle since new. Because it's been kept that way it hasn't gotten real dirty like yours but, recently I did use some engine degreaser in that area and haven't had any issues since then. I have always used amorall and such without regard. Most of the components under there seem to be water tight or sealed components. I would just have a good look at where you spray and try to avoid open electronics that may short out. You might also check the cleaner you use and make sure it won't damage plastic, rubber or paint. One of the detailers here will likely know some reliable cleaners.
Yea, I've used the green stuff too. It cleans well and doesn't collect dust like armorall.
One thing that might surprise you, Pledge with lemon is great for leather treatment. I use it on my seats, saddles, shoes, coats, etc. Had an upholstery guy tell me about it so I tried it on some leather deck shoes. They lasted a full two years longer than any ever had before.
Also, when using water I would be sure to do it when the engine is cool. Theres a lot of cast iron parts that could crack or warp if doused with cold water when hot.
I just give it a good soaking with simple green and rinse with a garden hose.
I second simple green, Works great!! Take the whole cover hosing off (3 bolts) then carefilly clean all that up.... I also used a low pressure nozzle on my presure washer, worked great....
