I bought a 1998 F150 about 2 1/2 months ago (new Ford owner!) and it seems to have all the bells and whistles EXCEPT keyless entry. The locks and windows are all electric, has powersteering, cruise, antilock, etc. I looked for the module, and it DOES NOT have one, so I know it's not a case of just missing the transmitter (I bought one just in case...no programming response).
My question to you gurus is this: Does Ford prewire the F150 for K.E.? If so, do I only need to purchse the white module and plug it in to make it work? I can get one for $40.00. Please, any info would be greatly appreciated!
i think you will be spending a tad bit more than $40 even on just the keyfob... lol best bet? buy a viper alarm system w/ keyless entry at best buy, and have em install it for free shouldnt cost you more than 200 bucks or so, maybe 300, but its a much better system than the OEM K.E. anyways..
Bullfrog - It sounds like my '98 is just like yours - loaded except for keyless.
I got a Ford module from eBay and with some help, figured out how to wire it in. The module cost me $5, so it was definitely a cost effective solution.
As 1BadF150 indicated, it may be cheaper in the end and you'd get more features with an aftermarket alarm.
I have a keyless entry system through Circuit City and my driver side key locky thingy won't turn. The passenger's will because I have to unlock with the key because it is retarded with the actuator problem (which hubby is gonna fix), but I haven't had to manually unlock the driver's door EVER. tried the wd-40 and am afraid that i will break off the key in the lock... any suggestions?

So did it just plug into an existing harness, or did you have to wire it up? Guess I'm asking if its kind of "plug n play".
I already have a transmitter ($10.00 on eBay) Its the module I'm concerned about. I really don't want an alarm- too annoying and noisy. Plus, I'm a cheap basterd, lol!
well, with a viper alarm you can take it to an alarm shop and actually tune it like you would with your cars ECM, it has a crapload of settings you can tweak with uncluding valet mode, how long your alarm sounds off for when its activated, which features are disabled during activation, what sound is played if any, all kinds of stuff you can also adjust it to automatically lock your doors and turn on the alarm a few seconds after you shut the doors so you never forget to turn the alarm on yourself ( i wouldnt do it, its pretty risky... very easy to lock your keys in the car, alarm armed and everything LOL) but with aftermarket alarms, you quite simply have the option to do whatever you like with it... unlike ford, or anywhere elses alarms, that give you a crappy alarm, with keyless entry, and thats about it
I think Poppa Ford threw us a curve ball on the KE (LOL) I got my 97 F-150 XLT like said , had all the bells and whistles I just knew for a fact it had the KE . The P.O. didn't know he only gave me one key and said thats the way he bought it. I looked all up under the dash and no module.
I allready had a couple remotes. So I might try to find a module in the salvage yard and the wiring and see if it will splice in. I think you have to have the Lariat before you get the KE and the foglights as standard options
I ordered a 97 F-150 back in July 96 so that as soon as they came off the assembly lines I had one of the first with a 5.4 motor. The instructions to the salesman were "load it". It was a 4x4 Off-Road and came with all of the bells and whistles -- except keyless entry.
The truck does not have the Lariat package, but it does have the 8x3 fog lamps built into the front bumper. Ford put them on the 97s, discontinued them, and brought them back a few years later.
Loved the truck, hated the rear-end, missed the K.E., and used the fog lights like driving lights.
