Sorry for the photobucket expertise....or lack thereof.
I bought a '97 F250 2WD about six months ago.
Other than oil and filter changes, maintenance may have been neglected somewhat. Anyway, I bought a new fuel filter to put on because the one on the truck MAY have been original. This needed the tool to disconnect the fuel lines which I have done dozens of times before on other vehicles. The hose to the rear side of the filter came off easily but the front wouldn't budge. I had soaked both fittings with penetrating oil, but I couldn't get the front fitting off. To make it easier, I purposely snapped off the front fitting from the old fuel filter itself and that made it easier to work on. After about on hour of working on it, the front nipple finally came free of the fuel hose fitting.
On close inspection of the old nipple, (hopefully the photos came through) there is some extra material on it. What is it? Has anybody run across this before? It looks like the internal fittings from the fuel filter hose, but I installed the new filter, snapped the fuel hoses to it and it does not leak. If I didn't know better, I would swear that it's supposed to be there.
BTW, some of you experts might catch that the picture of the new filter is not the correct filter for this truck (it's for my Aerostar actually), but the nipples to this filter are the same as what went on the truck, only shorter. I just took a picture to show the type of nipple that this truck takes. The picture of the new filter installed on the truck is the correct one.
Any thoughts? With the clamps on place on the truck, I don't think the filter will pop off, but I'd hate to have that happen with it basically pointing at the exhaust.....
TIA.
