Anybody ever heard of one of these being converted for use as an ambulance? I bought one at an auction sale last weekend. It's a '96 extended 4WD and looks to have heavier rear springs and shocks mounted to it.
I'm not sure if this was used as full-fledged ambulance, or maybe it was a "Supervisor's Vehicle", or something. It does have tracks bolted to the floor where (I guess) stretchers could be strapped down. It also had brackets for oxygen bottles, some other tank, fire extinguisher mounted. The siren/lights have been taken off, brackets remain as well as a center console complete with a whack of switches, a big (about 6") speedometer/odometer/clock mounted on the passenger side of the console(!?) and a bunch of wires/cables and boxes for the 2-way radio system.
Oh...one cool feature is that the "wig-wag" (headlights alternately flashing like a cop car) still works....whoo-hooo...I'll never be stuck behind somebody in the fast lane again!
Starts/runs great, except for a problem I'm having with the rear brakes (see my other post and give me some advice please!)
Good morning, Canadaler
Although it doesn't go into detail, the owner's manual for my '92 AWD says under
the heading 'Ambulance Packages', "Warning: Do not use this vehicle as an ambulance"

Reason: Misspelled name
I would think Ford had something in mind like center of gravity and high speed stability when used as an emergency vehicle, although your's is a much more interesting scenario.
